to make his mark on the major UCI races of the US calendar.
Team Jamis – Hagens Berman is delighted to announce the arrival of Argentinean sprinting star Juan José Haedo as the final addition to the 2013 squad. Haedo is welcomed back to the team after six successful years of racing in Europe at the WorldTour level, most recently with Team Saxo Bank.
Haedo developed as a professional rider in America, racing for a previous iteration of Team Jamis for three years before leaving for Europe. “I’m familiar with the racing in the US and excited to be back racing there,” Haedo states. “I know most of the guys in the team and I am excited as we will be a very strong team in 2013.”
Team director and fellow Argentinean native, Sebastian Alexandré, echoes these sentiments and is thrilled to be working with Haedo once again. “I know J.J. very well and have kept in touch frequently since he moved to Europe. After we finalized our sponsors for 2013, I spoke with him about this new project and the plans to grow the team and he liked the idea. With J.J. on board, this is undoubtedly the strongest team that we have ever fielded. The team will be competitive in every race we enter and I hope to show it during all of the major UCI races in the U.S. next year.”
J.J. brings extensive knowledge and an impressive palmarés to the team. He has stood on the podium in stages at all three Grand Tours, most recently with a third place finish on Stage 5 of this year’s Tour de France. He has also won five stages and the points jersey at the Tour of California, a stage at the Tour of Missouri, and took the win in 2007 at the Philadelphia Invitational.
“I’m really looking forward to the major UCI events in the USA,” Haedo notes. “I would like to add to my tally of stage wins at the Tour of California. I’ve also heard great things about the Tour of Utah and the US Pro Cycling Challenge in Colorado and hope that the team can earn invitations to these events. I’m motivated and confident that I can deliver wins for my new team.”
Carine Joannou, the president and CEO of Jamis Bicycles, is looking forward to the leadership, knowledge, and publicity that Haedo brings to the team. “J.J. is a fantastic signing for Team Jamis on all accounts. His achievements on the bike speak for themselves. It will be great to see a rider of J.J.’s caliber riding a Jamis bike. As one of the best and most powerful sprinters in the world, we’ll be able to use his feedback to help test a build better bikes for our customers.”
Haedo will make his debut in the colors of Team Jamis – Hagens Berman by leading the squad in Argentina at the UCI 2.1 rated Tour of San Luis on January 20th.
