Each summer, we really look forward to the Brighton 4th of July Parade — in a collaboration with Brighton Optimist Club, Hometown Bicycles leads a family-friendly ride down Main Street for all ages! It’s a fantastic red, white and blue display of awesomeness to see so many people on bikes, enjoying this tradition with their children and grandchildren.
SOME SMALL CHANGES WITH THE CONSTRUCTION DOWNTOWN:
We will be meeting at Pi’s Restaurant (corner of cross and 2nd street in Brighton) 8262 Cross Street, Brighton, MI 48116, 8:00 AM)
Parade route will follow Second Street to Main Street to Brighton High School
You can decorate your bikes, collect some all-American tattoos, and get ready for the “Bike Decorating Contest”
Join in the parade – kids, grandkids, moms, dads, ALL ARE WELCOME!
You’ll be riding in the Parade with Hometown’s own Shaun, Dawn and kids! Bring YOUR kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews, and join them for a ride down Main Street!
Meet Jean Steinberg, a Hometown alumni and modern day Nomad!
We have known Jean and her family forever! She has been an active advocate for cycling in Michigan and is a Legend in the community.
When we were looking for a RIDE COORDINATOR a new position we were developing in the shop, we knew it “Had to be Jean”.
She took that new department and ran with it, and helped lay the foundation for the future team.
I first met Jean when I hired her son and and knew that this person was good for the industry. When she had the time to be part of the crew and help Hometown grow, we knew, “if we are cool enough for Jean……. we are cool!”
So what is Jean up to now – well, her and her husband are homeless and traveling the country… but here it is in her own words:
The life of Jean Steinberg is kind of like “Where’s Waldo”. Find me if you can!
I am living the life of a full-time traveler with my husband Steve. I have a son, daughter-in-law and grandkid in both New Mexico and Maryland, while being blessed with parents still living in Michigan – this may explain why we are full-time travelers. In 2021 we sold our Brighton home of 34 years, packed the Subaru (plus bikes) and a 10 x 10 storage unit in Maryland and began a year wait for the “birth” of our Storyteller Overland Mode LT (the most awesome <20’ Class B van ever!). Did I mention when we sold the house, our van was due in a few months? Well, it was a Covid baby, so the unexpected delays kept us scrambling for places to stay as we traveled across the states, with the Subaru filled to the gills. Since picking up the van in St. Louis, MO in May 2022, we’ve logged over 23,000 miles and enjoyed countless hours with family and friends (and goats too). It has been AWESOME taking the time to hike, bike and just hang out (especially with our Hometown peeps). We’ve seen some wonderful sights along our travels and expect to REALLY explore going forward.
So you may be wondering, how much can you pack into a Ford Transit and still have space for you and a spouse to live? The answer is 2 bikes, equipment, hiking gear and as many layers of clothes necessary to get you to your planned destinations and back to the Maryland storage unit to re-load. The temperature can range from 20 – 95 degrees in the same trip, so it can be a bit of a challenge.
I never envisioned living “houseless” and spending well over half the year in a van crossing the country multiple times. Honestly, I can’t wait for the next year’s adventures!

5 years ago TODAY, Daniel J. Horal’s life changed forever, and now his legacy is changing yours…
When Dan set out for his bike ride on Wednesday April 24th, 2019, he was struck and killed by a distracted driver in Island Lake State Park.
Dan’s tragic accident was and still is devastating to his family. However, they didn’t let this tragedy become just a memory – it became a STORM OF CHANGE. His loss rallied the Horal family to say “ No More”. They created the Horal Family Foundation, with Dan’s wife, Jane, at the forefront of massive safety improvements here in Livingston County, the State of Michigan, and even on a national level, speaking directly to the Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg.
2023 marks the 5th anniversary of Dan’s passing and, in that time, the GO LIV CO / HORAL FAMILY FOUNDATION has raised and donated thousands of dollars to safety improvements at Island Lake State Park. The group has been working with the Transportation Coalition in Livingston County for creating sensible changes for safe mobility for all. They have worked closely with the Kiefer Foundation and Hands Free Michigan to help end distracted driving.
