Hometown’s VERY Big News

Hometown Bicycles' VERY big news video

Unleashing Our Inner ‘Awesome’

So now you know our BIG news, and by “our,” we are definitely including YOU, the loyal customers who are giving us a reason to grow.

Think about what this move means… the new, Brighton Hometown location is 16,000 square feet and 3 acres of awesomeness. That means more products, more variety, more learning opportunities, more riding, more events, and a heck of a lot more fun.

We will launch the Grand Opening on April 15, 2015 – fittingly, Hometown’s 5-year anniversary.

We have big dreams for this big, new space, and we would appreciate your help. Get the word out, get geeked and, if you’re a hands-on sort of person, get involved! We’re looking for skilled craftsman and participants in our limited edition, “I Believe in Hometown!” Gift Certificate program.

For details and to find out how you can be a part of Hometown’s epic evolution, stop by our Brighton shop and talk to Shaun. Your faith in us is the reason why we do what we do.

THANK YOU  and

Happy Thanksgiving, Hometownies!

Happy Thanksgiving from Hometown Bicycles

Iceman, Coffee, and Your Cycling Experience

The Ultimate Cycling Experience
THE STORY OF HOMETOWN: INTERMISSION

In last week’s newsletter, we ended our recent installment of the Hometown Bicycles saga with what amounted to a cliffhanger… and, boy, did we ever learn what Hometown means to all of you!

We had visits, and calls, and messages from so many of you, wanting to know what’s happening with the company, and whether everything is okay.

Rest assured, we’re sticking around. But if our last email gave you pause for thought – a world without Hometown Bicycles – then we hope you’ve come to realize the same thing we have…

What Does Hometown Bicycles Mean to You?

Hometown Bicycles has become far more than just a place to buy bike stuff; there are plenty of those already. Instead, Hometown is where you set goals, share your stories, make new friends, overcome challenges, improve your health, vent your frustrations, learn, hang out, dream, thrive, and celebrate your accomplishments. You’ve made us a hub of the community.

In essence, Hometown Bicycles is where you’ve chosen to come for your ultimate cycling experience… WOW. We do not take that responsibility lightly…

Ultimate Cycling Experience

To us, a true Ultimate Cycling Experience means a place that offers the products you need, the service you expect, the education to grow, the opportunity to use what you’ve learned, and the team to support and celebrate what you do.

Based on your feedback, we’ve made a great start, but there’s always room to be better.

So, What Are We Doing?

Right now, we’re working on stronger relationships and intriguing opportunities that will help us achieve our goal of giving you the Ultimate Cycling Experience you deserve.

What Can You Do to Help?

Keep doing what you’re doing!! The fact that you believe so much in Hometown that you send your family and friends, join our shop rides, show up to our clinics, patronize our shop, and come to us for advice is the ultimate show of faith. THAT is what will get us to this goal.

Part 3 of Infinity…

So, although we started this Hometown saga as a Part 1 of 3, we’ve realized that with our story really just starting, it’ll take a heck of a lot more than 3 measly little articles to tell it all.

We promise to keep you in the loop, chapter by exciting chapter…

Shaun & Dawn Bhajan

HIGH VISIBILITY AT LAST WEEK’S BIKE LIGHTS CLINIC

We had a full house at last week’s Bike Lights & Night Safety Clinic. It was awesome!
There were some really stellar questions asked, and a bevy of curious cyclists tested out bike lights on our Devil’s Night Shop Ride immediately after. You sure couldn’t miss them, as you’ll see in the video above.
Thanks, clinic peeps, for showing up, learning, riding, and hanging out with us. And a special thanks to Jim Cleer for leading up one of the ride groups and to Leslie Cook for bringing us some new Hometown fans!

Extra, Extra… Read All About It!

A HOMETOWN SUPERSTAR:
Meet Ray Dangelmaier

Most of you know Ray as the “smiley, little guy” on Hometown’s sales floor… and as a blur on the mountain bike race scene. He’s a perennial, customer favorite – radiating Texas-sized personality and crazy-awesome bike smarts.

Now Ray’s given us another reason to bust our vest with pride, being selected as Michigan’s Jamis Grassroots Rider. That’s a giant leap toward Ray’s dream of becoming a Jamis Pro Team Rider.

We asked Ray a few questions about how he got into cycling and how he feels about Jamis and the sport:

Q) Who inspired you to ride a bicycle?

A) There wasn’t any particular person that inspired Ray to ride. He started riding trails with his friends to beat summer boredom, and wound up falling in love with cycling in the woods. Mountain biking became his ultimate get-away.

“When I’m riding, there’s no stress, no “clean your room,” no obligations – it really gets me to my ‘happy place.’”

Q) What made you want to ride a bicycle professionally?

A) “I don’t consider riding my bike a profession; I just enjoy it. I’m stoked every day to go ride my bike… not to win money or anything – just to see how far I can push myself, and how hard I can push the competition.”

Q) Where did you take your first podium?

A) Ray’s first podium was a win at the Pontiac Lake Time Trial in 2012 – the same year that he graduated from high school and first started mountain biking. A good friend, CJ Brish, had taken him under his wing, and helped Ray break into the competitive field.

At this particular event, CJ challenged him to move up into Expert, so that they wouldn’t have to wait for the 1:00pm Beginner division start time. Ray rocked the course, and won his first Expert race with a whopping 12 minute lead.

That’s when he knew he wanted to pursue racing.

Q) When you took your first podium, how did you feel?

A) “Amazed. I was blown away that, in the little bit of time I’d been riding, I could progress as much as I did. It made me realize that cycling is my passion.”

At that point, Ray dropped all other sports – including over ___ years of hockey – to focus his full energy on cycling.

Q) Why do you want to race for the Jamis family?

A) “The whole company is, in my eyes, the most amazing group of people. We share the same goals and views. Jamis does whatever they can to get you on a bike. They just want to get people riding and into the sport.”

Ray was also wowed by a personal email from Jamis’ CEO, Carine Joannou.

“I mean, what other president of an international company would email a small grassroots cyclist, like me? I also met Jamis’ factory pro rider, Erica Tingey, and she made a point of connecting with me on Facebook. It’s like having a second family.”

We’re proud of you, Ray!
