YAHOO!!! It’s here!! Wednesday, March 2, from 6-9pm, is the final clinic in our Winter Clinic Series, covering Michigan’s most bike-friendly trails, its coolest cycling events, our new Shop Rides, the women-only cycling group Hometown Green Gals, and how tobecome a part of Team Hometown Bicycles.

There’ll be pizza and beer while you hear from Shaun, the co-creator of Hometown’s Green Gals, and our awesome Team Captains.

ARE YOU ADVENTUROUS???

If you’re a Hometownie, then the answer is an instantaneous and resounding “YES!!” This Saturday, March 5th from 10-11am is an event you won’t want to miss – an “Intro to Adventure Racing” clinic put on by Michigan Adventure Club.

It promises to be an event to remember, covering how to be smart, swift, safe, and otherwise awesome on these giant team scavenger hunts in the great outdoors. You’ll learn orienteering, Adventure Race etiquette, and will ultimately gain the confidence to try a race like the May 7th MI Adventure Club’s ‘Get Your Bearings Adventure Race’ at beautiful Brighton Rec.

CUTE ANIMALS AT HOMETOWN THIS SATURDAY

AND WE’RE NOT JUST TALKING ABOUT OUR CREW… This Saturday, March 5th from 11:30am-3:30pm (immediately following the “Intro to Adventure Racing” clinic!), Last Chance Pet Rescue is bringing a handful of heart-melters who are looking for love and a forever home.

Donations are encouraged, and adoptions welcomed. But, if nothing else, stop by and give these tough-luck survivors some well-earned belly rubs – it’ll make you both feel great! Bring the kids!!

Interested in joining the Hometown Bicycles cycling Team? We’re welcoming aboard riders of every skill level and cycling preference to one of our two teams:

The Race Team – Hometown Bicycles Race Team is geared for the competitive cyclist, beginner to pro. You’ll take the Hometown values – positive vibes, good sportsmanship, cycling advocacy, goal setting, and having fun – to the shop rides and races.

The Club Team – Hometown Bicycles Club Team shares the joy of cycling via non-competitive rides and events. This Team is perfect for the casual, recreational, charity, and fitness riders.

THE BENEFITS OF BEING A TEAM RIDER
Hometown Bicycles Team cyclists enjoy discount privileges, service priority, race/ride reimbursement, rewards for shop ride and event participation, and more. You’ll also be a part of something that supports the sport you love, and will connect with other amazing people who share your passion!

YOGA FOR CYCLISTS: STRETCH IT A LITTLE FURTHER

Our Community Room has been awash in flexibility and relaxation these past several weeks, as Jessica Beaubien of Soul Stretch Yoga rounds out her Yoga for Cyclists series.

The next 6-week Yoga for Cyclists series begins in a couple weeks – same time, same place (Tuesdays 11-12 in our Community Room). 6 weeks for $30, or $7 for walk-ins. Email soulstretch@gmail.com to register.

2016 marks the first full year of memory-making, adventure-generating, and blow-your-socks-off-bicycle-servicing in your new Hometown Bicycles Adventure Center. And while we always learn from looking back, this year our focus is on bringing you the ultimate bicycle experience going forward.

STUDENT BICYCLE ART THAT SOLD!!!

SOLD! Heather is the proud new owner of Ellen Bartush’s bicycle with flowers drawing (left). McKenna Baumker’s cool bicycle map collage was purchased as a surprise Christmas gift (right).

Before Christmas, two of our incredible customers bought two of the uber-talented, Brighton High School students’ bicycle art pieces. SO. AWESOME.

So, congratulations Ellen Bartush and McKenna Baumker on your first art sale at Hometown Bicycles! (Remember, students keep 100% of the proceeds.)

Kudos to BHS art teacher, Maureen Ray, for successfully challenging her students to create!

THE COUNTDOWN HAS HIT SINGLE DIGITS – ARE YOU READY?
With Christmas just a week away, we’ve made a list that you’ll want to check twice…

___ Remember, Hometown is open on Christmas Eve from 7am-3pm! We close
between Christmas and New Year, and re-open again on January 2nd at 7am.

___ If you bought a bike as a gift, and are keeping it at the shop to prevent snoopery,
make sure to call 1-2 hours ahead before pick-up, so that we can have it prepped
and ready to go. Also, let us know if you want a bow on the bike!

Sue is a wellspring of information, and her art tells the stories that she’s collected over years of professorship and research. What we especially love about her work is that it’s VIBRANT and playful, while still appealing to the intellectual cyclist. But even if pondering isn’t your thing, we encourage you to enjoy a refreshing smile in front of the jaunty, neon head of “Bike Face”!

BICYCLE ART AT HOMETOWN: PEGGY KERWAN

Peggy GETS cycling; she’s a cyclist who finds the fun in any bike-bound adventure. And her artwork is about those adventures – the people, the places, and the roadkill rat (yes, you read that right!) that turn a ride into something worth capturing on canvas. You may have seen some of Peggy’s work at the Wooden Spoon in Brighton, where she curates. We’re delighted to have her creativity here at the shop!

Hoo boy… those stockings always seem to get forgotten until the very last minute, don’t they.

Keep calm and come to Hometown. We’ve got all sorts of sock-sized goodies in our new art department that will pleasantly plump out your fireplace footwear, including beautiful notecards from local artist Peggy Brewer; sew-master Lauren Patrell’s super-awesome coin purses; a new line of handmade, unique-as-snowflakes, gear ornaments; and the bluesy tunes of our very own CycloDan Tribble.

Be sure to also check out our famous sock wall – much loved by all – and everything from bike bells to pint glasses and lubes to water bottle cages. In fact, you might just need to hang up another stocking…
