Hometown Turns 5 Today!

TODAY, APRIL 15TH, HOMETOWN BICYCLES TURNS 5!  That’s 5 YEARS of getting you to your happy place on a bicycle… what a dream come true!!
Something this momentous requires celebrating, but we’re saving the big shin-dig for the impending grand opening of our new store. ‘Til then, take a stroll with us down memory lane to honor the business that’s making waves, making friends, and making history thanks to you wonderful, wonderful Hometownies…

Hometown Bicycles history

2010: A BUSINESS CONCEPT IS BORN  It all started with a relationship (ours – Shaun & Dawn), a need (for outstanding, speedy, anti-snob bicycle service), a vision (to blow people’s minds), and a tiny rental space in Brighton. (Above: Service shop before and after)

Hometown Bicycles history

2010: HOMETOWN BICYCLES OPENS FOR SERVICE  Mid-renovation, Shaun popped the question, and the soon-to-be Mr. & Mrs. Shaun Bhajan officially opened the doors to Hometown Bicycles’ service shop. (Above: Dawn says “yes” and signage makes the business official)

Hometown Bicycles history

2011: WE INTRODUCE RETAIL  Customer demand made expansion into retail a natural next step, and after falling in love with Jamis Bicycles, we went for it… Hometown Bicycles tripled in size to bring you cool bikes and accessories. (Above: Retail shop before and after)

2012: SHOP RIDES & CLINICS TAKE OFF  We were determined to be a cycling resource for our customers and community, so we launched rides and clinics open to all. (Above: Early shop ride and making ourselves visible from Grand River)

Hometown Bicycles history

2013: WE CREATE THE MOUNTAIN BIKE MARATHON  We built a bike course from scratch and created the wildly successful Hometown Bicycles Mountain Bike Marathon event – our first foray into race creation, and certainly not our last! (Above: Happy race volunteers)

2014: WE BRANCH INTO A SECOND LOCATION  To spread the love, we opened a Hometown Bicycles satellite service center in Whitmore Lake. Although we recently moved this store’s operations back to Brighton in preparation for our big move, it remains a core piece of our shop heritage.(Above: Hometown Bicycles Whitmore Lake)

2015: BIG OL’ CHANGES ARE UNDERWAY  This year, we’re taking on our biggest challenges to date – opening a 10,000 sq. ft. Bicycle Adventure Center and becoming parents. But then, we never did like to live small! (Above: Renovations are well underway, and so is our mini-Hometownie… both arrive this spring)

The Future…  With you as customers, we can reach the stars. We’re privileged to have you as part of our continuing adventures, and will keep on keeping you in the loop as the awesomeness unfolds. (Above: The future home of Hometown Bicycles)

Thank you for making these past 5 years MAGICAL,

Shop Update: Unleashing Awesome

Hometown Bicycles Bicycle Adventure Center
WHEN WE FIRST ANNOUNCED OUR COMING MOVE to a new and better location, we coined the term “Bicycle Adventure Center” to give you some sense of the awesomeness that is about to unfold.

We started with a vision, are in the process of creation, and now… well, now we’re realizing that we’re on the brink of launching something REVOLUTIONARY. What we as Hometown Bicycles do in this new location will generate a positive ripple effect across the industry – that is our mission and our expectation.

It is not something that will happen overnight, but it is something THAT WILL HAPPEN.

To prepare for this epic transition, we’re making a key, strategic change to Hometown Bicycle’s business structure:

AS OF TODAY, WE ARE MOVING OUR ENTIRE WHITMORE LAKE STORE OPERATIONS TO BRIGHTON.

The genius of our Whitmore Lake staff and culture has been brought back to Hometown’s core to help stoke the fires of what we’re preparing to launch.

It’s not a small change, and we thank all of you warmly for your enthusiasm and support of our satellite service center. But know that something revolutionary is happening, and it’s time for us to go ALL IN.

A dragon is waiting to be unleashed…

~ Shaun & Dawn

TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN DASH OR CRASH

Rotary Club of Brighton's Top of the Mountain Dash or Crash at Mt. Brighton

When we Hometownies sprint, it’s usually with our feet on the pedals, but this is one upcoming race that has you running, walking, even crawling over terra not-so-firma. Mud, gravel, obstacles, hill climbs… too cool not to mention here!
