Hometown Bicycles financing with up to 12 months zero interest

“TAX REFUND OR NOT, I WANT THAT BIKE!!”

Alright, Hometownies, with winter dragging it’s heels on its way out the door, we’ve all been getting fidgety, and you know that means the Spring bug is going to bite… HARD.

While you’ve been cooped up indoors – with visions of Renegades, beach cruisers, fatties, and single speeds dancing in your head – there’s been a head of steam building. Hit the pressure valve, Hometownies! You don’t need to hang around waiting for a tax refund to kick off your Spring the way you’ve been dreaming.

Remember, we offer financing – 12 months no interest for purchases of $1000 and more, and 6 months no interest for anything under. Doesn’t matter what you buy – bikes, gear, goodies.

You know Hometown. You know how we roll. You know we wouldn’t offer this if it weren’t a good program offering good value to our customers. Apply ahead of time, so that your financing’s ready when YOU’RE ready. And go ahead, hit the ground sprinting this Spring!

Hometown Bicycles 8th Anniversary Save the Date

IT’S FAMILY FUN FOR A FAMILY BUSINESS BIRTHDAY!

April 15th marks 8 years of Hometown, 8 years of growth, 8 years of loving what we do, and 8 years of getting to know YOU, and that definitely deserves a celebration… Hometown style! Details to follow, but prepare for contests, rides, a picnic, birthday cake, and birthday presents for YOU! Make-a-Wish will also be there with Wish-a-Mile Bicycle Tour information – the perfect compliment to our family event. Put it on your calendar!

TWO LEGISLATIVE TRIUMPHS FOR MI CYCLISTS

League of Michigan Bicyclists logoCyclist safety and advocacy have always been at the heart of League of Michigan Bicyclists (LMB) efforts, and they hit a double homer with their recent State House success… AND YOU ARE THE WINNER!

On March 21st, the House passed two LMB bicycle safety bills. The first requires that all drivers education classes/trainings address the laws and safety practices pertaining to cyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians, and other vulnerable roadway users.

The second is the institution of a 3-foot, Statewide passing law – a compromise from the desired 5 feet lobbied for by the LMB. Still, it adds one more layer of protection for you and your fellow cyclists.

You can catch the details of these legislative triumphs on the LMB blog. Makes you feel like someone’s got your back, doesn’t it. Thank you, LMB, for fighting so passionately to keep all of us safe!

•  Brighton Lacrosse
•  Local Homeowner’s Association

We’ve got tables, chairs, whiteboards, refrigerator/microwave access, and parking. We have a wooded trail out back and a large front lawn, in case outdoor activities play a role in your program. And let’s not forget that you’ll be at the world’s coolest bike shop!

So, whatever it is that you’re getting a group together for – pinochle or painting parties, club meetings or business conferences, story time or kids crafts – shoot us an email: events@myhometownbicycles.com. This may just turn out to be the perfect space for your get-together!

Shaun Bhajan looking out the window at Spring weather at Hometown Bicycles
I TOLD YOU S… OK, OK, I WON’T SAY IT…
Remember that email I sent you a couple weeks back, telling you that the best time to get your bikes tuned up is NOW, so you won’t miss a minute of cycling weather? Today has just put a very definitive exclamation point at the end of that statement!

Those of you early birds who already took up the call – happy cycling! And there’s been another surge of tune-up bikes over the last few days. But if you haven’t acted yet, know this…

We’ll be seeing a lot more of these spring-heralding days over the coming month. If indoor cycling is your thing, may the force power your climate-controlled pedal strokes. But if the thought of getting back outdoors makes your heart SOAR, pack up those bikes and bring them in! We’ll have you ready to ride the next wave of beautiful weather.

Team Hometown Bicycles Sponsor Mike Kearns of Kearns Brothers, Inc.MIKE KEARNS REPRESENTS AT SUMMIT

Speaking of Team Sponsors we can all be proud of, we’d like to give a 21-gear salute to Mike Kearns of Kearns Brothers, Inc, who spread Team goodwill and bike joy all the way down in Florida, building donation bikes at a recent Contractor Summit. As described in their event roster:

“… we are giving back to the Miami community with a Build-a-Bike chariKearns Brothers logoty component [and] are asking all in attendance to volunteer a portion of their time, and help us give back to those recently ravaged by Hurricane Irma… help us assemble [the bikes] and have fun doing it!”

And so he did. Mike, ya’ done your Team proud!

BULLDOG PRIDE AT HOMETOWN BICYCLES

At Hometown, we’re big on activities that involve fitness, family, and the great outdoors, so you can imagine how geeked we are to be Sponsors of the 2017 Brighton Bulldogs Travel Baseball Team. Last night, they met in our Community Room to prep for a stellar season, and impressed the socks off of us with their energetic camaraderie and good manners… plus, they were genuinely kind to Liam, which wins them bonus brownie points in this mama’s book! Stay tuned for a list of their games.

So, now we’ve hosted Bulldogs Baseball, Lacrosse, Football, and Art in our Community Room – yep, we’re definitely feeling Bulldog Pride! Have a Team, Troop, or other group that needs a meet-up spot? Email events@myhometownbicycles.com for Community Room reservations – it’s free for non-profits!

BE A HERO: BIKE PATROL TRAINING AT HOMETOWN

It takes a first class sort of person to step up and actively seek ways to support fellow cyclists and, as it so happens, that’s exactly what Hometownies are… first class! So, if you’ve got it in you to give back to the cycling community, here’s an opportunity happening right here at Hometown THIS SATURDAY, April 8th (limited space, so register now!):

Like to Ride? Like to help people? The National Mountain Bike Patrol may be for you…

The mission of the Mountain Bike Patrol boils down to:
• Assist in medical and mechanical emergencies
• Educate trail users of proper etiquette
• Inform land managers, land owners, trail coordinators

For detailed requirements and/or to register for training, contact Randy at bikepatrol@mcmba.org.

Well, not quite – but he sure learned a lot about it from fellow sponsor and skilled artist Tom Stombaugh of Anything That Moves Taxidermy at Brighton Nazarene Church Sportsman’s Banquet.

Brighton Nazarene Church "The Naz" logoOur fellas dined on venison, oggled weaponry, talked taxidermy and bikes, and (I personally suspect) grunted like Tim Allen. It was definitely one of the more unique events in which Hometown has participated. Shout out to “The Naz” for this manly opportunity!

(LEFT: Hugs to Gail – in purple – one of several who came specifically to support this spin newbie! RIGHT: Motivational maven and Friday morning spin instructor extraordinaire… thanks for the workout, Tammy!)

CONFESSIONS (& REVELATIONS) OF A SPIN NOVICE

Confession #1: I was nervous about going. Once upon a time, I was fit… post-kids, not so much.

Confession #2: I feared judgement. Everyone assumes the skinny girl’s an athlete. How was it going to look when I tapped out at granny speeds on the easiest spin bike setting?

Confession #3: I thought I might get bored. I mean, you’re indoors and stationary – how entertaining can that be?

Revelation #1: I left spin class reinvigorated, hopeful, motivated. Getting my legs moving got my brain moving, as well. It reminded me how it felt to be fit, and made me eager to get back to that “happy place” in my physical well-being.

Revelation #2: No one was looking. If I sat out a couple sprints or elected not to ramp up my resistance, there were no sirens and flashing “slacker alert!” signs over my head. Lights were dim, eyes were forward. It was between me, my mind, and my spin bike.

Revelation #3: Um… not even remotely. Instructor Tammy had us powering up and down, sprinting intervals, and leaping in and out of our saddles in an hour-long variety-fest of spin combinations. There literally wasn’t time to get bored!

THANK YOU to those awesome lady Hometownies who had my back at this class – you were the wind beneath my pedals! And thanks, too, to Hamburg Fitness Center‘s Deb and Terry, who cooked up this challenge to get my butt back in the saddle – this is the kind of remarkable support you can only expect from a gym that truly cares.

I hope my experience encourages on-the-fencers to give it a go… you don’t have to be Lance Armstrong, and you don’t have to be a member. Call for class times: 810-231-4169

MEET YOUR CREW: OZZY AGUILAR

Our to-the-point service tech, Ozzy, is easy-going but, man, can he rock out the tune-ups! You’ll spot him wrenching on bikes and riding the trails in between his school studies.

I ride because to me riding is a way to enjoy nature at its best. It’s a way to get away from people, the town, the city, and go into nature and enjoy the ride.

CRAMBA Ride Dirt Trails, Not Mud Trails flier

REMINDER: DON’T BE THAT CYCLIST

… you know, the eager beaver who just can’t wait for the trails to dry, and destroys them for everyone else. We know that early Spring days bring intense trail temptation, but listen to that little white-clad dude on your shoulder – the one with the halo! Or, if you’re more practical in nature, listen to the organizations that maintain the trails. Trust us, you’ll get a longer and more enjoyable cycling season when you sit tight for solid singletrack!
