GOOD LUCK, MEGHAN AND COLIN!
Hometown Bicycles crew members, Meghan Horal and Colin Wood

We were sad, yet proud to send off two more of our wonderful summer crew to the world of academia.

Meghan Horal, cashier extraordinaire, added a tremendous amount of value in her brief time here, and was also known for the fantastic bike jokes you read weekly on our entryway board. We wish her all the success in the world at college, and look forward to seeing her again when the weather warms!

Colin Wood has set himself some aggressive personal goals for his final year in high school, but may still make appearances throughout the winter. We’re proud of what he’s accomplishing, including how he’s killing it on the high school mountain bike team. Go, Colin!

You’ll see some new faces at Hometown over the coming weeks. Be sure to stop by and say hello to your new crew-in-training! (Positions still open!)

PINCKNEY STUDENTS PUT SHAUN THROUGH HIS PACES

Shaun Bhajan of Hometown Bicycles teaching the mechanics of bicycles to Pinckney's Navigator Elementary students

Pinckney’s Navigator Elementary teacher, Angela Kanerva, approached us with a fantastically unique request. She asked us to show her students how bicycles consist of a mechanical system in which parts work together to achieve a functional goal. Wow, right?

So, Shaun and our Events Coordinator, Jennifer, addressed over 100 extremely curious students on the science and engineering of bicycles. It was a HUGE hit – for us as much as them! We came away inspired and hopeful about the future of cycling.

What a cool program… can’t wait to do it again! We wish we’d had you as a teacher, Angela!!

BICYCLE ART AT HOMETOWN: SUZANNE ALLEN

Suzanne Allen artwork

Suzanne Allen - artist - at Hometown BicyclesSue is a wellspring of information, and her art tells the stories that she’s collected over years of professorship and research. What we especially love about her work is that it’s VIBRANT and playful, while still appealing to the intellectual cyclist. But even if pondering isn’t your thing, we encourage you to enjoy a refreshing smile in front of the jaunty, neon head of “Bike Face”!

(Artwork copyright Peggy Kerwan. All rights reserved.)
Peggy Kerwan artwork "Pink Ladies"Peggy GETS cycling; she’s a cyclist who finds the fun in any bike-bound adventure. And her artwork is about those adventures – the people, the places, and the roadkill rat (yes, you read that right!) that turn a ride into something worth capturing on canvas. You may have seen some of Peggy’s work at the Wooden Spoon in Brighton, where she curates. We’re delighted to have her creativity here at the shop!
