Jr. Hometownie T-Shirt Competition

Little girl drawing a bicycle clip art

WITH HOMETOWN’S 7TH ANNIVERSARY JUST AROUND THE CORNER, we’ve got some coolness in the works… including a t-shirt art competition for our junior Hometownies! Here’s the scoop…

Have your preschool – 5th grader paint or sketch up a fun and colorful t-shirt design (no larger than 8″ x 8″), that includes the following:

  1. A hand-drawn or hand-painted Hometown logo
  2. The words: “I’m a Jr. Hometownie!” (Mom and Dad can help, if needed)
  3. Any other bicycle-related art that your young Hometownie is inspired to create!

Bring in their entry by Monday, April 10th to proudly display in our Community Room for the rest of the month!

The winner will be announced at our 7th Anniversary event on April 15th (details coming soon!), and their winning design will grace a limited edition run of Jr. Hometownie t-shirts! How cool is that?!?

In addition to bragging rights, your school-age winner will also receive a complimentary Jr. Hometownie t-shirt, and will be featured in our weekly newsletter and website! ALL participants will receive an official Hometown sticker, and be acknowledged on our website. We can’t wait to see what your talented, pint-size Hometownies create!!

Team Hometown Bicycles podiums at Barry-Roubaix Killer Gravel Road Race with Mark Lang and Jim Cleer

TEAM HOMETOWN BIKES THE BARRY

It was another Team Triumph over Ma Nature at last weekend’s Barry-Roubaix Killer Gravel Road Race!

Placing 2nd overall, 14 Team Hometown riders squelched through muck and cold to a glorious podium finish – only a little over a minute shy of 1st place! Special kudos to riders Mark Lang and Jim Cleer (see above), who took 2nd and 5th consecutively in their age division. Plus a Hometown huzzah to Jack Riddle who, although too under the weather to ride, still made the drive to support his Team. WOW! Awesome job, Team!

HOMETOWN TRAIL C.P.R.

Team Hometown Bicycles rider Ed Pienkosz helped clean up the Trail after The Great Wind Storm of '17Following what we’ve dubbed The Great Wind Storm of ’17, our shop trails were littered with branches and debris. But with their usual good spirits and can-do attitude, our Team breathed new life into Hometown’s damaged single track.

Thanks, Jean Steinberg (Hometown’s Ride Coordinator), for getting this ball rolling. And Tom Hermann (who spearheaded the effort), you are a total rockstar! Plus a million thanks to the wonderful Team members who rallied to the cause. Come out and ride their handiwork!
(Ed got an early start on trail clean-up – thanks, Ed!)

GOOD LUCK, MEGHAN AND COLIN!
Hometown Bicycles crew members, Meghan Horal and Colin Wood

We were sad, yet proud to send off two more of our wonderful summer crew to the world of academia.

Meghan Horal, cashier extraordinaire, added a tremendous amount of value in her brief time here, and was also known for the fantastic bike jokes you read weekly on our entryway board. We wish her all the success in the world at college, and look forward to seeing her again when the weather warms!

Colin Wood has set himself some aggressive personal goals for his final year in high school, but may still make appearances throughout the winter. We’re proud of what he’s accomplishing, including how he’s killing it on the high school mountain bike team. Go, Colin!

You’ll see some new faces at Hometown over the coming weeks. Be sure to stop by and say hello to your new crew-in-training! (Positions still open!)

PINCKNEY STUDENTS PUT SHAUN THROUGH HIS PACES

Shaun Bhajan of Hometown Bicycles teaching the mechanics of bicycles to Pinckney's Navigator Elementary students

Pinckney’s Navigator Elementary teacher, Angela Kanerva, approached us with a fantastically unique request. She asked us to show her students how bicycles consist of a mechanical system in which parts work together to achieve a functional goal. Wow, right?

So, Shaun and our Events Coordinator, Jennifer, addressed over 100 extremely curious students on the science and engineering of bicycles. It was a HUGE hit – for us as much as them! We came away inspired and hopeful about the future of cycling.

What a cool program… can’t wait to do it again! We wish we’d had you as a teacher, Angela!!

HOMETOWN HELPS SAFETY TOWN TEACH TINY TOTS TO RIDE SMART

One of our absolute favorite summertime activities is working with Brighton Safety Town to teach kindergarten-age kiddies how to enjoy safe fun on two (or three) wheels.

Between tricycle checks, helmet fits, and pedal-powered parking lot practice, we’re helping the next generation grown into smart cyclists! In fact, if you’re reading this email Tuesday morning, than Shaun is at Hilton Road Elementary School, “schooling” the next batch of pint-sized cyclist-to-be’s. We’re telling you… it’s priceless!

Check out Brighton Safety Town’s Facebook page and website to see all of the cool things they do!

$10 BICYCLE ART BY PINCKNEY STUDENTS

Pinckney High School bicycle art for sale at Hometown Bicycles

Brianne Campbell's bicycle balloon art at Hometown BicyclesHometown recently had a blast hosting an art reception open house for the creative kids of Pinckney schools.

Art teacher Hallie Levine made the clever decision to create prints of her students’ pieces before their original artwork headed home with them for the summer. What does that mean for you?

It means fabulously imaginative bicycle art available for purchase at Hometown… for just $10! And remember, on any student art purchase, 100% of the sale goes directly to the student! Come support these creative kids!

Capital-“K” Kudos goes to Brianne Campbell whose whimsical balloon bike art (above left) was the first piece of Pinckney student art to sell at Hometown Bicycles. Congrats, Brianne!
