The Countdown to 1,000 CONTINUES!

The days are disappearing. Time is flying by. Word is getting out. And our repair count keeps climbing.

Repair 934…              Repair 939…              Repair 945…              Repair 957….

We know we can do this. We know we can complete 1,000 repairs by the end of this year – Hometown’s first year. We know we can do it because you, our customers, have been stepping up to the plate.

This isn’t about business anymore. It’s about achieving something. It’s about conquering a mountain and staking our flag at the summit. It’s about proving that “unlikely” doesn’t mean “impossible”…

IT’S ABOUT A NUMBER. REPAIR #1000.

We're getting closer! We’ve completed 943 Repairs, Repair 957 is in the store now, and Repair 948 is on the stand. You can follow the count on our Facebook Page.

For everyone who has brought in a bike, thank you. You became a part of something bigger – something that will go down in Hometown history – the minute you walked through our door.

For those who want to participate, here’s the deal. The next 42 tune-up/repairs that are brought in before December 31st will get a Complete Overhaul (new cables, new housing, new bar tape and cleaned and degreased to within an inch of its life), a 25% Off Any Product Coupon (special orders included) and an honorary place on our Facebook Wall of Fame. And you’ll get all of this for $40. No joke. So our question is…

Will YOU be one of the THOUSAND?

Hometown Bicycles Party Update
Our party plans have changed! By popular request, we’re moving our Hometown celebration to Thursday, December 30th, 5-10pm.

We polled our customers as they brought in more repairs (right on, bike peeps!), and the universal answer was “move the party between Christmas and New Years!” So that’s what we’re doing. And by the 30th, we hope we’ll have something else besides a wedding and a shop opening to celebrate… 1,000 or bust, baby!

There’ll be food, music, seats and great company. You don’t need to bring a thing besides yourself. If you can make it, please CLICK HERE TO RSVP.

“Hell, there are no rules here –
we’re trying to accomplish something.” -Thomas Edison

1,000 or BUST by December 31st! Will you help?!

It all started with a customer’s question: “How many repairs have you done?” The answer blew MY mind: 921. But that also made me realize that we’re just 79 repairs away from 1,000.

Basically, that was the moment the challenge was set. We can’t stand being this close to the big 1-0-0-0 in our first year of business, and not bust our chops to make those last 79 repairs happen by the end of the year. It’s like going for a 10 mile bike ride, and bailing after 9.25.

It’s totally do-able, and hitting that 1,000 repair mark would be super freakin’ awesome!

That’s where you come in. We’re offering you a “super freakin’ awesome” incentive to pull your bikes out of hibernation, or off their trainers, and bring them in for the overhaul of their lives. Based on our track record, you’ll only be missing your bike for a day.

Hometown’s “Super Freakin’ Awesome” Tune-Up Incentive

The next 78 tune-up/repairs that walk through our door BEFORE DECEMBER 31ST will get:

  • A COMPLETE OVERHAUL – New cables, new housing, new bar tape (where applicable), and a complete clean and degrease. You’re bike will ride like greased lightning, and sparkle in places you didn’t know could shine.
  • A 25% OFF ANY PRODUCT COUPON – That includes bikes, parts, accessories and special orders, and expires January 15th. Right now, there’s 78 coupons left. (Thanks, Jackie!)
  • FAME – We’ll post a pic of you and your bike on our “1,000 or BUST!” Facebook Wall of Fame.

YOU GET ALL OF THIS FOR JUST $40!

And to make it even easier, starting December 8th, we’re reinstating our 7AM to 7PM hours until we hit 1,000. You can keep track of the Countdown to 1,000 on our website and Facebook page.

Are we nuts? Likely. But, hey, we’re on a mission.
Will you help make our 1,000 repair goal happen by December 31, 2010?

Jackie Z. gave us repair # 922. You rock, Jackie! ...Now who's next?

Well we’re movin’ on up….. to the east side (of our building)

Life is good at Hometown Bicycles

Good times at Hometown

Life is good over here at Hometown. We’ve had a kick-arse year of bicycle booyah at our repair shop. Since April, we’ve accomplished nearly 900 get-you-back-on-your-bike repairs. We’ve met cyclists who’ve literally ridden their cranks off, who’ve rocked the roads and trails, who’ve competed their way into the Nationals, who’ve made us what we are today and who’ve become family in the process.

MOVIN’ ON UP…

This is how we do it at Hometown

Yeah... that's how renovation's done at Hometown!

‘Cuz of your support, we’re building you the bike shop you’ve always wanted… right next door to our Repair Shop.

We’ve launched Hometown Bicycles Renovation Project #2 on the east side of our building – prepping it for the bikes, clothes, equipment and cycling goodies that will make you pedal for joy. It’ll be a cyclist’s wonderland by the time we’re through!

This will be our winter project, and we want to say THANK YOU to all the customers who have, are, and are continuing to volunteer their time. You rock.

Holy renovation project, Batman!

WINTER HOURS
We’re a few days into our Hometown winter hours – 12-7pm daily – at the repair shop, though you’ll likely see us using the mornings for next-door renovations. Feel free to drop off your repairs or stop in and say “hi”. We’re relaxed like that.

OUR BETTER HALF
Shaun & Dawn tie the knotWhile Hometown is marrying repairs and retail, it’s owner has been busy marrying the catch of the century (*ahem* we may be slightly biased). That’s right… Shaun and Dawn have finally tied the knot!!

Stay tuned for our December, post-wedding, pre-opening celebration at the new shop. It’ll involve music, food, dancing, and you’re ALL invited.

Thanks for everything, Hometownies! We’ll see you at the shop!

Lucky Shaun

P.S. Sorry ladies, he’s off the market.

An FYI About What’s Going On

Hometown Bicycles LLC is expanding! The past five months have been FUN. It’s given us a chance to really find our niche in the cycling community, and we see it on a day to day basis with the customers that come into this store again and again. Plus, 781 bicycle repairs in 112 days… that’s not too shabby!

We just want to take a few minutes to tell you about the stuff that’s coming up over the next month:

Bicycle Sales and Our New Home: Hometown has been getting more heavily into bicycle sales. Although we haven’t kept a lot of bicycles in stock, we’ve had tremendous success with the Jamis and Scott bikes that we carry. They just about sell themselves!

As time goes by, we’re looking at stocking more and more bikes, but most of the bicycles you’re going to see will be coming in after our trip to the September Interbike Show. (More on that in a moment.)

Where will we put all our new stock? In our new home!

We’ve made our move on the building next door, and will be opening our Hometown Bicycles LLC bicycle retail shop next spring. It has been talked about for a while, but now it’s officially happening!  Our entire operation is growing to 3,500 square feet of fun bike stuff, including our own separate Fit Room and Upgrade Center (the only one in town, we might add).

Bike we donated to Tour de Livingston

So, if you’re thinking about a new bike, come in and get fitted. Let’s make this happen!

Tour De Livingston: The Hometown bicycle donation for the 2010 Tour de Livingston on 10/10/10 is a cool new Jamis Earth Cruiser. Look for the below graphic around town, attached to the handlebars of a Pink Jamis cruiser bike, with – by popular demand, via Hometown’s Facebook Poll – whitewall tires.

Interbike 2010: We have worked very hard this first year at the shop. Alex and I have put in a lot of hours doing what we love and maintaining why we launched the shop in the first place: to be YOUR BIKE SHOP. As a reward for all of our hard work, Alex, Joe, Matt and myself are going to Vegas. But, in this case, what happens in Vegas will NOT stay in Vegas. It will come back in the form of bikes and awesome new products that will make your cycling experience amazing. Well try our best to have fun – it is a “Working Vacation” after all. But someone’s gotta do it. The shop is going to be closed for the show from Tuesday September 21st to Sunday September 26th. Join our Facebook to get the inside scoop on – and irregular updates from – the show. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for understanding that we’re doing it for you!
