SIGH… THEY GROW UP SO FAST…

Look what a single year can bring… a new shop, a new adventure, and a son who catapulted from newborn to “hey, Mom, I’m going mountain biking with the guys.”

We want to put out a monster-sized “THANK YOU!” to every single one of you who celebrated Liam’s birthday with us on Memorial Day weekend. You just reaffirmed that you truly are FAMILY, and we love you for it!

BRAGGING RIGHTS: STUDENT BIKE ART IS A HIT!

AMAZING!Their incredible art will be on display only a short while longer, so hurry in to check it out!

There’ll be pizza and beer while you hear from Shaun, the co-creator of Hometown’s Green Gals, and our awesome Team Captains.

If you’re a Hometownie, then the answer is an instantaneous and resounding “YES!!” This Saturday, March 5th from 10-11am is an event you won’t want to miss – an “Intro to Adventure Racing” clinic put on by Michigan Adventure Club.

It promises to be an event to remember, covering how to be smart, swift, safe, and otherwise awesome on these giant team scavenger hunts in the great outdoors. You’ll learn orienteering, Adventure Race etiquette, and will ultimately gain the confidence to try a race like the May 7th MI Adventure Club’s ‘Get Your Bearings Adventure Race’ at beautiful Brighton Rec.

AND WE’RE NOT JUST TALKING ABOUT OUR CREW… This Saturday, March 5th from 11:30am-3:30pm (immediately following the “Intro to Adventure Racing” clinic!), Last Chance Pet Rescue is bringing a handful of heart-melters who are looking for love and a forever home.

Donations are encouraged, and adoptions welcomed. But, if nothing else, stop by and give these tough-luck survivors some well-earned belly rubs – it’ll make you both feel great! Bring the kids!!

“Best of…” Clinic-Party Here This Wednesday

THE BEST RIDES IN MI, THE BEST PEEPS TO RIDE WITH & THE BEST TEAM EVER

Last week, we had RECORD ATTENDANCE (in the whole history of Hometown!) at our “Why Jamis” clinic. WOW!!! Let’s see if we can top it this week…This Wednesday, February 24, from 6-9pm, is the final clinic in our Winter Clinic Series, covering Michigan’s most bike-friendly trails, its coolest cycling events, our new Shop Rides, the women-only cycling group Hometown Green Gals, and how to become a part of Team Hometown Bicycles.

It’s another carb-loading clinic with pizza and beer… gotta get you ready for March 1st – a.k.a. Cycling Season!!! In addition to Shaun, you’ll also have a chance to meet and hear from the co-creator of Hometown’s Green Gals, plus our awesome Team Captains.

NOTE: While Team Hometown Bicycles has a competitive ride group, it also includes a non-race Club team for beginners to pros, trail cyclists to road junkies, fund-raisers to just-for-funners. Our mission is to have fun and to positively promote the sport of cycling. If that sounds like your “cup o’ tea”, then join up!

“INTRO TO ADVENTURE RACING” CLINIC

ADVENTURE RACING is a team scavenger hunt in the great outdoors. Teams are given topographical maps, work together to locate checkpoints, and have to finish in a specified time. Adventure Races generally involve bike travel, paddling, and navigating on foot.This Saturday, March 5th clinic will provide a general introduction to Adventure Racing and give you the confidence to try a race like MI Adventure Club’s ‘Get Your Bearings Adventure Race’ in Brighton Recreation Area on May 7th. You’ll learn everything a novice racer needs to know about Adventure Racing – including topographic maps, compasses and navigation (a.k.a. orienteering.)

Despite the blustery weather, our Community Room was packed (no small feat, it’s a big room!) with eager cyclists, raring to learn about Bicycle Care & Maintenance. Next week, we delve into Part 2 – what to do AFTER the ride:

MCKENNA’S OUTSTANDING ART

This is McKenna. McKenna, like Ellen from last week’s newsletter, is also a Brighton High School student and a member of Maureen Ray’s advanced drawing class. McKenna is holding an envelope containing a check for her artwork (right), which sold as part of ourHometown Bicycles Student Art Program. Her piece made one lucky recipient very happy this Christmas.
