TEAM HOMETOWN GIVES LOVE TO THE LOWELL 50

Seven of our intrepid Team members biked the challenging, but scenic dirt roads of The Lowell 50 Classic Gravel Road Race (see above photo). It was a challenging field, but the Team dubbed it a fantastic race – definitely one to do again.

A “whoop-whoop!” goes out to Team member, Joe Ostervik, who took the jersey on the road at the first race in the Waterford Hills Road Racing Spring Training Series.

IMBA's National Mountain Bike Patrol training took place right here at Hometown Bicycles

FEELING SAFER BY THE MINUTE – MCMBA BIKE PATROL

National Mountain Bike Patrol Training is no cakewalk – nor should it be… it’s about saving lives, preserving trails, and promoting the sport – and we saw a group of volunteer heroes put through their paces at last weekend’s intensive class here at Hometown. Happily, we had both the classroom and the on-site trails to accommodate!

Our congratulations and thanks to the men and women who have stepped up to keep us and our trails safe! If you’re interested in learning more about Bike Patrol, CLICK HERE.

Daddy-Daughter, Ladies Spin Challenge & Party Invitation

How Sweet It is to be Loved…

Hometown Bicycles, with Shaun Bhajan, sponsoring the Howell Parks and Rec Sweetheart Dances
(Shaun & Aria enjoyed daddy-daughter dancing, and congrats to our dance-time drawing winners!)

KIDS, CANDY, CUTENESS – AND BIKES! – AT THE SWEETHEART DANCES
Hometown hit the dance floor last week for not one, but THREE, Sweetheart Dances that we enthusiastically sponsored through Howell Parks & Rec. Family values reigned supreme (and our son picked up some new dance moves) at these A-is-for-adorable, mother-son / daddy-daughter dances.

Some of you readers signed up for our e-newsletters at the event – welcome, and ride on!

We also want to tip our helmets to truly some of the kindest souls on the planet – our cosponsors, Brennan Investment Services and McCaskill Family Services. Can’t wait to participate in more events with these big-hearted businesses!

WE  YOU, HOMETOWNIES! HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!

Happy Valentine's Day from Hometown Bicycles!

Pizza and Jamis Bicycles - A Clinic-Party at Hometown Bicycles

THIS THURSDAY (2/16):

  EAT, DRINK & BE CURIOUS!

YOU’RE INVITED TO A JAMIS CLINIC-PARTY COMBO THIS THURSDAY!
This Thursday, February 16, from 6-8pm, we’re hosting a pizza-and-beer clinic celebration that combines the best of Jamis, bike smarts, and cyclist sustenance.

Come out and meet Tom, our uber-awesome Jamis rep, who’ll be sharing insider industry scoops, cool Jamis facts, and answering any questions you might have about the company and the bikes.

You’ll also hear from Shaun about why, when we had an opportunity to carry any bike brand, we determined that Jamis would rock our customers’ worlds and help support the industry we love. The answers may surprise you.

Everyone is welcome – the Jamis owners, the Jamis newbies, and the simply Jamis curious. Bring your family; bring your friends; bring your neighbors; bring your coworkers. What better way to spend a winter evening than surrounded by bikes, connecting with fellow cyclists, and relaxing with a full belly?

REGISTER NOW TO ATTEND OUR “WHY JAMIS?” CLINIC-PARTY
We appreciate your early registration, so that we can make sure there’s enough food for all!

Ladies Spin Challenge with Dawn at Hamburg Fitness Center

OH, HOW THE TABLES DO TURN…

Well, it was all fun and games when I gleefully signed Shaun up for his Spin-Off at the Hamburg Fitness Center. And, of course, look what came of it – he became a spin convert!

Ladies, please don’t make me do this alone!! I’m several years out of shape, and looking for some serious moral support. The Ladies Spin Challenge is (of course) women only, and runs FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24TH AT 9:30AM – $5 HOMETOWNIE SPECIAL. Child care is available, fellow mamas! (Call 810-231-4169 to pre-register your kiddies.)

Hometown Bicycles service lead Andrew Jackson
(Image at left courtesy Andrew Jackson)

MEET YOUR CREW: ANDREW JACKSON

Andrew is a Hometown phenomenon – mature beyond his years and with a natural ability to lead. You’ll spot him running lead in our service shop, and participating in tons of shop rides. Customers love him, our kids love him, we love him. Andrew’s a treasure:

Coming from a family of eight children myself, Hometown is just another extension of my big family. Whether it is cranking out the tune-ups, watching the kids for Dawn, or helping Shaun finish up the projects around the shop, I am there. I enjoy mountain biking or road riding with some of my fellow Hometown crew members, racing in the MiSCA series, or working on a project or two of my own (usually bike related). Quote I live by: “The only bars I want to be behind in my life are a set of handlebars.”

What a ‘Best Event Ever!’ Looks Like + Cycling in the Dark

Fat bike friendly mountain bike shop ride at Hometown Bicycles' Fall Extravaganza

HOMETOWN’S FALL EXTRAVAGANZA REALLY TOOK THE CAKE…

One of our party-goers called last Saturday’s shindig “Hometown’s best event yet!”, and in terms of fun-for-the-whole-family, this-is-what-Hometown-Bicycles-is-all-about entertainment, we’d have to agree! Here’s a scrapbook-style look back at an event that has more than earned its place as an annual shop tradition…

Yoga with Ashley Knuth of Tocca Massage and Yoga, Cardio Drumming with Martha Soraruf, and Zumba with Rael'e Buddenborg of Hamburg Fitness Center at Hometown Bicycles' Fall Extravaganza

ABOVE: Fitness classes brought insane levels of energy to the shop floor! Top left – party peeps eased into the festivities via dynamic yoga with Ashley Knuth of Tocca Massage & Yoga. Next up, our floor was ROCKIN’ to a Hometown favorite – Cardio Drumming with Martha Soraruf. Artist Peggy Kerwan (middle) and sponsor Sandy of Beauchamp Water Treatment & Supply (right) jumped in on the action, like the total rockstars that they are. Zumba had everyone swinging to lively Latin rhythms, courtesy of Rael’e Buddenborg of Hamburg Fitness Center (bottom left).

Artists Peggy Kerwan, Lauren Patrell of LPbyLP, Mickie of Nana's Knits, and Sarah Burke at Hometown Bicycles Fall Extravaganza

ABOVE: Our art fair may have been mini, but it was truly MIGHTY, thanks to the INCREDIBLE artistic talent of Hometown artists (left to right) Peggy Kerwan, Lauren Patrell of LPbyLP, Mickie of Nana’s Knits, and Sarah Burke. We love you, art peeps!

Sarah, we would like to add, braved the chilly winds to work her spray paint magic (bottom right) outside during our event. She’s an enterprising, artistic, high school student whose work we will soon be carrying at the shop. This gal is going far!

Kids making bicycle gear Christmas ornaments at Hometown Bicycles' Fall Extravaganza

ABOVE: Kids had a blast crafting their own Christmas ornaments out of painted bicycle gears in our first-ever kids’ craft class. Expect to see a lot more of these classes here at Hometown!

Jenny Schild of Body Within Personal Training, Vinnie Baylerian of Pro-Motion Physical Therapy, and Sandy of Beauchamp Water Treatment and Supply at Hometown Bicycles Fall Extravaganza

ABOVE: A few of our sponsors also got in on the action! Jenny Schild of Body Within Personal Training (top left) and Vinnie Baylerian of Pro-Motion Physical Therapy (top right) ran a no-charge, “Ask the Expert” session in our entryway, while Sandy of Beauchamp Water Treatment & Supply kept everyone hydrated and in good humor with her vivacious personality. Thank you, super sponsors!

Fat bike demo at Hometown Bicycles' Fall Extravaganza

ABOVE: We could hardly get the bikes prepped fast enough for our wildly popular fat bike demo. Demo-ers pounded through the newly named Liam’s Loop trail behind our shop (top), and then again in Island Lake.

Fat bike friendly mountain bike shop ride with Shaun Bhajan at Hometown Bicycles' Fall Extravaganza

ABOVE: And speaking of riding Island Lake, our event also drew an enormous crowd for the Fat Bike Friendly Mountain Bike Ride with Shaun.

Crockpots full of delicious chili at Hometown Bicycles Fall Extravaganza Chili Cook Off

ABOVE: The cherry on top for the riders and their families was coming back to a 15-entry Chili Cook-Off event of delicious proportions. Congrats to Terry and her Surprise Chili for the People’s Choice win! We had no idea so many of our Hometownies could rock the crock(pot)!!

THANK YOU!! We can’t wait until next year’s Fall Extravaganza!
