TOM H.’S SUPER-AWESOME DAY

Tom H with the Jamis bike - donated by Hometown Bicycles - that he won at Tour de Livingston

(Congrats, Tom!)

Tom rocked 100 miles at this year’s Tour de Livingston AND won the raffle for the Jamis bike that we donated to the event. Now THAT’S a super-awesome day! Here’s what Tom has to say about it:

“I have done the Tour de Livingston two years.  I waited until I had a suitable bike (my cross bike) before I rode it.  If I was to ride it, I wanted to do the whole 100 miles.

I connected with Hometown Bikes when Shaun moved from his previous bike shop job in Brighton. He was always great with the customers at that shop. My brother informed me that he took a bike to get repaired at Shaun’s little shop (the repair only edition). So I started to use Shaun for tune ups and repairs.

I was actually shocked when I heard Shaun call my name for the bike. For a moment I thought he was kidding, or I had not heard it correctly. It really took me the whole morning to process it. I had been trying to figure out ways to convert my cross bike to be more road friendly. With my kids, I really don’t have the money right now to buy a good road bike. I just figured I would eventually get one in a few years or so. So this just really makes it more sweet.

My plans for the new bike are to take it on a few more road events (I really enjoy them). I still mountain bike primarily (though my mileage for the year doesn’t say so). Eventually I will make it back out to Ragbrai some year, and I will definitely ride the road bike and not suffer across Iowa with my cross bike.

Thanks again Shaun and Dawn!

Iceman Effed My Bike Tune-Up

YOU BREAK ‘EM, WE FIX ‘EM…

Michigan’s legendary mountain bike race – Iceman Cometh Challenge on Saturday, November 7th – is famous for its sweet course, cool vibe, beer, bikes and MUD. We’ve repaired hundreds of exquisitely trashed bikes that did noble battle with the Northern Michigan trails.

From that comes our hugely popular “Iceman Effed My Bike Tune-Up” – where you get $20 store credit toward parts and accessories when you bring in your bike and coupon post-Iceman for a Hometown tune-up. CLICK HERE to print the “Iceman Effed My Bike Tune-Up” coupon, good through the month of November.

This year, we’re also running a $50 Pre-Iceman Tune-Up Special which gets your bike dialed in, cleaned, and “fueled up” for race day with guaranteed next-day turnaround (with in-stock parts). No coupon needed – just say “get my bike ready for Iceman!”

LESLIE’S PEDAL-POWERED MAKEOVER
Customer Highlight: Biking with benefits of the life-altering variety

Leslie Cook, a cool customer of Hometown Bicycles

If you look up “enthusiasm” in the dictionary, there should undoubtedly be a picture of Leslie Cook.

Leslie’s taken to mountain biking like a fish to water. Here’s his story in his own words:

“I started riding my old style steel trail bike to get into shape.  It was fun gravel grinding on back roads but started getting boring when riding by myself.  I wasn’t very motivated either, until my kids started to get on me about my health.  When I finally took a look at myself and realized I couldn’t see my belt buckle anymore and had to lean to see my shoes, I decided things must change if I wanted to live to see my grandkids and enjoy them.

I joined a biggest loser contest at work, started getting in shape, and started riding my bike again.  I’ve lost 35 pounds, kept it off, and started trail riding.

I have been riding two years now, rode in my first Iceman, and finished.  I could not have accomplished this without the support from Home Town and the support of the riders I have have met (plus the ripping tune up I got from Shaun.)  I am looking forward to continuing my friendship with these wonderful people and encourage others to do so also.  Look forward to seeing you all on the trails.”

Want to share your story and inspire others to ride?  Send us an email with your favorite cycling photo and a little bit about why you ride, what inspires you, and what you’ve done that might inspire someone else to change their life, too!
