LAUREN’S NEW LINE OF SPLATTER STITCHERY

LPbyLP Lauren Patrell bicycle sewing craftsmanship at Hometown Bicycles

Lauren Patrell of LPbyLP beside her bicycle art at Hometown Bicycles in Brighton, MIOur best-selling bike artist, Lauren Patrell of LPbyLP, has the uncanny ability to blow our socks off every time she stops in. Every. Time. We’ve taken to keeping a roll of tape handy when we know she’s dropping by… saves us the trouble of having to track down wayward footwear!

Her latest bit of sock-blowing magic comes from a line of splatter art blended with mad sewing skillz to create total craft nirvana. It’s everything from coin purses and wallets to the sweetest keychains on this green earth, and it’s all available here.

Be prepared to fall madly in love…

(Photo courtesy of Kem Krest… thank you!)

Kem Krest logoFollowing up on the fun we had at last year’s event, Brighton’s Kem Krest – provider of supply chain solutions – once again extended us the honor of an invitation to participate in their annual Wellness Fair. Held on company grounds, we were one of several stations where Kem Krest staff could learn about health and fitness options AND collect points toward winning prizes for doing so. Such a cool program for a company to offer their team!

Want Hometown Bicycles to be a part of YOUR next company, school, or organization event? We LOVE being involved! Email our Events Coordinator Jennifer atevents@myhometownbicycles.com.

GOOD LUCK, MEGHAN AND COLIN!
Hometown Bicycles crew members, Meghan Horal and Colin Wood

We were sad, yet proud to send off two more of our wonderful summer crew to the world of academia.

Meghan Horal, cashier extraordinaire, added a tremendous amount of value in her brief time here, and was also known for the fantastic bike jokes you read weekly on our entryway board. We wish her all the success in the world at college, and look forward to seeing her again when the weather warms!

Colin Wood has set himself some aggressive personal goals for his final year in high school, but may still make appearances throughout the winter. We’re proud of what he’s accomplishing, including how he’s killing it on the high school mountain bike team. Go, Colin!

You’ll see some new faces at Hometown over the coming weeks. Be sure to stop by and say hello to your new crew-in-training! (Positions still open!)

PINCKNEY STUDENTS PUT SHAUN THROUGH HIS PACES

Shaun Bhajan of Hometown Bicycles teaching the mechanics of bicycles to Pinckney's Navigator Elementary students

Pinckney’s Navigator Elementary teacher, Angela Kanerva, approached us with a fantastically unique request. She asked us to show her students how bicycles consist of a mechanical system in which parts work together to achieve a functional goal. Wow, right?

So, Shaun and our Events Coordinator, Jennifer, addressed over 100 extremely curious students on the science and engineering of bicycles. It was a HUGE hit – for us as much as them! We came away inspired and hopeful about the future of cycling.

What a cool program… can’t wait to do it again! We wish we’d had you as a teacher, Angela!!

Hometown’s Trashy Trail Makeover Story

Hometown Bicycles Rides Coordinator Jean Steinberg clearing trash from Hometown's new trail

IT’S A DIRTY JOB, BUT SOMEONE’S GOTTA DO IT…
Now she’s a beaut, and that’s a fact! Thanks to the Herculean efforts of Hometownie volunteers – and captained by trail guru and Hometown Rides Coordinator, Jean Steinberg – our trail turned from trashy to total treasure in record time!

Volunteers for Hometown Bicycles trail clean up

ABOVE: Jim and Jean (left) bagged an unbelievable amount of trash that had collected along our property. Adam and a very enthusiastic wielder of the hedge clippers, Greyson, (right) made a formidable father-son team in taming the trailside overgrowth.

Volunteers help clear trash from Hometown Bicycles' new trail

ABOVE: Josh (left) and Steve (right) put their backs into it, clearing debris and smoothing the way. Garbage found (center) included everything from bottles and deodorant to mittens, shoe inserts, golf balls, and even a hockey glove!

There have been others, too – Mike, Tom Hermann, Doug Queener, staff, and others – who’ve led up to us saying…

Stay tuned for an official trail opening announcement and inaugural tiny trail ride around the property… COMING SOON!! Thank you, wonderful volunteers!!

YOUR SERVICE TECH, ROCCO MULARONI
Hometown Bicycles service tech Rocco Mularoni

Now, here’s a face many of you know well… meet Hometown service tech, Rocco Mularoni. Rocco’s career here has been brilliant, but college called and wants their student back. So, here’s our send-off tribute to one seriously awesome guy…We met Rocco over a year ago – a member of the Catholic Central Mountain Bike Team, he had his bike serviced here. His rockin’ self-confidence and positive attitude won us over – Rocco became the Hometown crew member we could count on to always make himself available, to learn at lightning speed, to blow us away with his mechanical aptitude, and to go above and beyond in helping customers.

Good luck at Hope College, Rocco! We can’t wait to see what you do with your life. In the meantime, your service apron is waiting for you any time you’re in town!
