Best Time to Tune Your Bike + Women’s Winter Classes

Hometown Bicycles' Service Tech Ozzy Aguilar working on a bike tune up
Q: SO, WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GET A TUNE-UP?
A: A lot earlier than you would think…

…………………………………..

Hometownies, I know January has a way of seeping under your skin – the leafless trees, the chill winds, the desaturated skies. It all takes a toll on your zen.

A growing population of you are laughing in the face of this winter reality, thundering through the snowy trails on the Clydesdales of the bike world. But if winter cycling just isn’t your M.O., here’s a ray of sunshine to lift you out of survival mode…

We’re just 48 days away from the launch of Spring Cycling Season – March 1st!

Spring tulipWith that in mind, customers ask us with surprising frequency about the optimal time to bring their bikes in for a tune-up. The answer is… NOW!

50 days will already disappear like smoke, but remember last year, when Spring made a cameo appearance in February? Guess who beat the rush of suddenly urgent tune-up requests, and got to hit the roads and trails before everyone else? You guessed it… the early bird cyclists, whose new year prep primed them for first dibs!

In Michigan, you should tune-up with the Boy Scouts motto in mind: “Be Prepared.”

Again, 48 days left ’til Spring Cycling Season…
48 days!

That’s nothin’ – a handful of “Hump Day”s, a pittance of paydays, a smidgen of snowfalls… peanuts. Don’t get caught short – you deserve to enjoy every glorious moment.

5 Foot Passing Legislation is in Jeopardy - take action!
4 DAYS LEFT TO HELP MAKE MI SAFER FOR CYCLISTS!
Hometownies, here’s a cause worth signing for! From League of MI Bicyclists (LMB):

Legislation to enact a statewide 5-foot passing law is in danger in the House and we need your help! A specified distance (5-feet) could be stripped out of the legislation if we don’t speak up now.

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will likely act on HB 4265 on January 16, 2018. We need your help to urge committee members to keep a specific distance in the bill to enact the strongest safe passing law possible. Click below or visit www.LMB.org/engage for details and to sign.

In the continuing saga of Team Hometown’s awesome adventures, last weekend found a fantastic five Hometownies racing the Yankee Springs Time Trial. Congratulations to Team member Scott Simpson for his 3rd place finish in Elite Expert single speed class! There were a couple other near-podium-experiences at this event – especially impressive as it’s “one of the largest and longest running time trial races in the Midwest”!

Triathlons 101 Clinic with Amy Gluck at Hometown Bicycles in Brighton, Michigan

“TRIATHLON 101” CLINIC WITH AMY GLUCK

Let’s be real, here… a good majority of cyclists flirt with the idea of triathlons. They may or may not admit it to anyone, but there is something inherently intriguing about spanning the sports in one, body-and-mind-challenging event.

Hometown’s Amy Gluck has a history in IRONMAN competition, and is back in triathlon training following a life-altering accident. With her background in health and nutrition, an IRONMAN Coaching Certification, and a head-over-heels passion for tri’s, Amy is the perfect person to kick off this newest Hometown clinic.

If you’re on the fence about whether to try a tri, are new to the tri community, or are simply eager to pick up tips from a pro, this info-gathering clinic is for you! NO CHARGE and two days to choose from!

Well, not quite – but he sure learned a lot about it from fellow sponsor and skilled artist Tom Stombaugh of Anything That Moves Taxidermy at Brighton Nazarene Church Sportsman’s Banquet.

Brighton Nazarene Church "The Naz" logoOur fellas dined on venison, oggled weaponry, talked taxidermy and bikes, and (I personally suspect) grunted like Tim Allen. It was definitely one of the more unique events in which Hometown has participated. Shout out to “The Naz” for this manly opportunity!
