TEAM NEWS: GLOBAL FAT BIKE RIDE

Hometown’s Team and crew made the short trek out to Island Lake last weekend for the Global Fat Bike Day Ride. It was total fat bike nirvana!

Hometown Rides Coordinator, Jean, described it like this: “it reminded me of dumping out a jar of marbles – bikes rolling in every direction! Over 100 Fat Bike cyclists joined in for the group ride – some estimate over 150.”

Wanna be a part of the next big fat bike adventure? Join us over at the Poto Trail this Saturday, December 10th at high noon for the 2016 Abominable Snowman Ride! Don’t have a fat bike yet? Cue the Hometown fat bike rentals…

RENT A FAT BIKE AT HOMETOWN

Our fleet of rental fat bikes were out in full force at last weekend’s Global Fat Bike Day Ride, and they’re all rarin’ to go again for any of you wanting to ride this weekend’s Abominable Snowman Ride. Here’s how the program works:

We have a fleet of 12 rental fat bikes in all sizes, for guys AND gals.

1 DAY = $50 3 DAYS = $100 5 DAYS = $150

Go out, ride, have fun and, if – you know – you just happen to fall in love, we’ll apply the rental fee toward your purchase of that bike!

While your picking out your rental bike, be sure to check out our winter gear selection. Riding’s infinitely more fun when you’re not frozen to your seat!

Happily, cold weather and early nights do NOT signal the end of cycling season! Here are shop rides you won’t want to miss this week:

Friday Night Lights – TBA
Although we’re a hardy bunch, temps creeping down into the 20°s this Friday with a stiff, 20mph “breeze” are beyond even our adventurous comfort level. Stay warm this weekend, and we’ll look forward to catching you on the next ride! Stay tuned to our Facebook for the next scheduled ride.

Fat Bike Friendly Ride – Saturday, December 17th, 10 a.m.
Explore ~12-14 miles of Milford area mountain bike trails with us! Fat bike / mountain bikes are all welcome. NO DROP RIDE. Dress warmly! Meet at the Milford trailhead located on Peter’s road between GM/Commerce roads, on the West side (at the Janowski Field park). Park in the lot closest to Peters Road (if you see baseball fields to your left, you’re there). **Check Facebook for ride updates.**

You’ve ridden with us at everything from Tour de Livingston Kick-Off to our weekly shop rides. Some of you are current Team members, and some are simply curious to learn more. We’re putting the call out to ALL of you…

Hometown Bicycles is now welcoming new and existing riders to Team Hometown Bicycles 2017, and YOU are invited!

WHAT IS TEAM HOMETOWN BICYCLES?
Our Team is a combination of non-competitive and competitive riders with a passion for cycling, supporting our community, and growing the sport.

We span all skill levels – from novice recreational riders to hardcore athletes – but share a common commitment to be the BEST version of ourselves and to give cyclists a good name.

WHAT DOES TEAM HOMETOWN BICYCLES DO?
Our Team leads off a wide variety of weekly shop rides, participates in benefit rides and races, volunteers at community events that benefit and promote the sport, shares their love of cycling at shop events, and makes it all FUN!

WHY SHOULD I JOIN TEAM HOMETOWN BICYCLES?
First and foremost, joining our Team gives you a chance to support and grow the sport you love. We’re an anti-snob operation, and believe that the health of cycling relies on its accessibility to everyone.

Our Team expectations are reasonable and fun, and the Team benefits are uniquely awesome, including reimbursements, discounts, and priority service from our famously outstanding service department (come see why we’re bragging!)

You will forge friendships with some of our community’s coolest people. Ride buddies will abound!

And, if fitness is on your New Year’s resolution list, you’ve got Team members to hold you accountable and a wealth of cycling opportunities to keep you excited.

Friday Night Lights – Starts up again December 2nd, 7:00 p.m.
Meet at the shop by 6:45 for an intermediately-paced night jaunt through Island Lake. Be sure your lights are charged, and bring a back-up, if you have one!

*Woot! Woot!* to the Night Lights riders who survived the sudden and completely unexpected thunderstorm last week! Hometown Rides Coordinator Jean described it as:

“…high winds, leaves whipping in front of your glasses, rain pelting your jersey and the pain in your legs as you asked for more wattage to seek shelter… Man, that was a really, really fun ride!”

8th Annual PotoMBA Black Friday MTB Ride in Ypsi – Friday, November 25th, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

What a ‘Best Event Ever!’ Looks Like + Cycling in the Dark

HOMETOWN’S FALL EXTRAVAGANZA REALLY TOOK THE CAKE…

One of our party-goers called last Saturday’s shindig “Hometown’s best event yet!”, and in terms of fun-for-the-whole-family, this-is-what-Hometown-Bicycles-is-all-about entertainment, we’d have to agree! Here’s a scrapbook-style look back at an event that has more than earned its place as an annual shop tradition…

ABOVE: Fitness classes brought insane levels of energy to the shop floor! Top left – party peeps eased into the festivities via dynamic yoga with Ashley Knuth of Tocca Massage & Yoga. Next up, our floor was ROCKIN’ to a Hometown favorite – Cardio Drumming with Martha Soraruf. Artist Peggy Kerwan (middle) and sponsor Sandy of Beauchamp Water Treatment & Supply (right) jumped in on the action, like the total rockstars that they are. Zumba had everyone swinging to lively Latin rhythms, courtesy of Rael’e Buddenborg of Hamburg Fitness Center (bottom left).

ABOVE: Our art fair may have been mini, but it was truly MIGHTY, thanks to the INCREDIBLE artistic talent of Hometown artists (left to right) Peggy Kerwan, Lauren Patrell of LPbyLP, Mickie of Nana’s Knits, and Sarah Burke. We love you, art peeps!

Sarah, we would like to add, braved the chilly winds to work her spray paint magic (bottom right) outside during our event. She’s an enterprising, artistic, high school student whose work we will soon be carrying at the shop. This gal is going far!

ABOVE: Kids had a blast crafting their own Christmas ornaments out of painted bicycle gears in our first-ever kids’ craft class. Expect to see a lot more of these classes here at Hometown!

ABOVE: A few of our sponsors also got in on the action! Jenny Schild of Body Within Personal Training (top left) and Vinnie Baylerian of Pro-Motion Physical Therapy (top right) ran a no-charge, “Ask the Expert” session in our entryway, while Sandy of Beauchamp Water Treatment & Supply kept everyone hydrated and in good humor with her vivacious personality. Thank you, super sponsors!

ABOVE: We could hardly get the bikes prepped fast enough for our wildly popular fat bike demo. Demo-ers pounded through the newly named Liam’s Loop trail behind our shop (top), and then again in Island Lake.

ABOVE: And speaking of riding Island Lake, our event also drew an enormous crowd for the Fat Bike Friendly Mountain Bike Ride with Shaun.

ABOVE: The cherry on top for the riders and their families was coming back to a 15-entry Chili Cook-Off event of delicious proportions. Congrats to Terry and her Surprise Chili for the People’s Choice win! We had no idea so many of our Hometownies could rock the crock(pot)!!
