Who Says Winter at a Bike Shop has to be Boring??

Last Thursday marked the final clinic – “Where to Ride in MI” – in Hometown’s 2016/17 Winter Clinic Series. And you know what we like to do when we conclude yet another awesome Hometown adventure…

Celebrate!

This clinic combined the best of learning and dining with the debut of our best shop ride schedule to date, plus a plethora of potluck contributions made (or bought) by food-savvy Hometownies. If you missed the fun, there’s not much we can do about the lost opportunity for incredible eats, but you can still download our 2017 Spring Shop Ride Schedule HERE.

And, beautifully timed, the LMB Michigan Ride Calendars have arrived. Be sure to drop by the shop to pick up your copy. You’ve got adventures to plan, and we have the resources to help!

FAMILIAR FACES AT SELCRA DADDY-DAUGHTER DANCE

We really dig good, wholesome, family fun! Hot on the heels of Howell’s Sweetheart Dances, Hometown sponsored the country’s largest Daddy-Daughter Dance, hosted by SELCRA at Brighton High School, this past Saturday.

Alongside our friends and co-sponsors at Brennan Investment Services, we met a myriad of wonderful father-princess combos – many who are new to this newsletter… welcome! – and several who are Hometownies all the way (see pics above)!

Special congratulations to Charlotte Saven (at right), the lovely, little lady who won our dance-day drawing for a Jamis girl’s bike! We wish you many wonderful rides – and dances – to come!

HERE’S AN EVENT TO WET YOUR WHISTLE…

You all know Ashley from Tocca Massage & Yoga, who held the massively popular yoga series at our shop (and will be running another – stay tuned!) Well, Ashley’s instigated an event that we know you’ll enjoy – Poses, Pedals & Pints on Saturday, May 13th.

It’s a triathlon of a different color – this one combines yoga, bikes, and beer with a laid back vibe in Downtown Brighton. Yoga commences at 11am at Brewery Becker. Hometown’s in charge of the leisurely 8-mile bike ride that follows, along with bike valet service. And it all concludes with a refreshing pint at the Brewery to cool your gullet.

MEET YOUR CREW: ALEX MANGANI

Witty, likable, mild-mannered – and we’d swear this man has a Superman cape hidden in his closet. Alex raced dirt bikes and has tales to tell. These days, you can find him on the sales floor at Hometown Bicycles, participating in just about every Hometown event, and – as it turns out – scootering:

I love all things on two wheels. Here I am, proudly holding the Best Scooter award for my restored 1966 Vespa at the 2010 Viva Lake Geneva scooter rally at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. I have participated in many rallies and shows, including Rockerbox in Milwaukee, Mods vs. Rockers in Chicago, and the Concors de Livingston here in Pinckney last summer. I promise to bring it to Hometown for display as soon as the weather allows.

JAMIS SQUARED: A NEW HOMETOWN MASCOT

We’ve given Jamis many compliments over the years, but “cute” and “fuzzy” were never apropos… until now! This handsome canine belongs to Team Hometown Bicycles Co-Captain, Jim Cleer, who named his four-legged friend “Jamis”.

With a name and a mug like that, OF COURSE he had to become our new store mascot.

Andrew is a Hometown phenomenon – mature beyond his years and with a natural ability to lead. You’ll spot him running lead in our service shop, and participating in tons of shop rides. Customers love him, our kids love him, we love him. Andrew’s a treasure:

Coming from a family of eight children myself, Hometown is just another extension of my big family. Whether it is cranking out the tune-ups, watching the kids for Dawn, or helping Shaun finish up the projects around the shop, I am there. I enjoy mountain biking or road riding with some of my fellow Hometown crew members, racing in the MiSCA series, or working on a project or two of my own (usually bike related). Quote I live by: “The only bars I want to be behind in my life are a set of handlebars.”

Chris is wacky and wonderful – a man of many talents with a heart as big as they come. Chris helps keep our shop ship-shape, along with a million other tasks that – somehow – he always seems to be good at. He’s been with us since our early days:

Critterbud defined: Loves family, friends, fun, and God, bicycling… Bigfoot!!!… ‘cycle touring, camping, making music, singing and songwriting… the love of Country and Hometown!!! Stolen quote of the day: “If you’re living on the edge, you’re taking up too much space!!!”

SHAUN’S GOTTEN HOOKED ON SPIN CLASS!

Sunday’s “Spin-Off” with Shaun over at Hamburg Fitness Center & Camp resulted in a full house of Hometownies (thanks for the support!)… and a new convert to spinning!

Instructor Nancy was top-notch, the atmosphere was friendly and encouraging, and the bikes were loaded with Hometownies. It was the kind of class that could encourage a 24/7 bike guru to sneak away from the shop for a weekly spin hit! Stay tuned on Facebook, if you would like to join him!

WE’RE HEADED TO THE LARGEST BICYCLE TRADE SHOW IN THE MIDWEST!
We may not have any blues to lose in the Windy City, but we definitely have some cruisin’ and schmoozin’ planned in our quest to find you amazing deals. Plus, we can’t wait to connect with Jamis, and check out what’s new and cool in the bike industry.

Your kids will create their very own, unique, bike-y Valentine in this family-friendly, holiday craft class, run by Hometown artist, Lauren Patrell of LPbyLP.

For ages 6 and up, but don’t be shy about participating if you’re an adult. We bet you know a cyclist or two who would love to get one of these from you!

Only $7 materials fee per person per ornament (why stop at one!)

Hometown’s youngest crew member is the personable and enthusiastic Matt Persha. We expect to see great things from Matt. Here’s a brief bike bio from the man himself:

My cousin got me interested in mountain biking, and I currently bike for the Detroit Catholic Central Mountain Bike Team. Before mountain biking, I used to play travel ice hockey as a goalie.

It’s a high energy, Hometown-friendly chance to pedal among friends, and YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A MEMBER TO PARTICIPATE.

¡Ay CRAMBA It’s Cold Out! Fatbike / Snow Bike Festival

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4TH FROM NOON-5PM

With Superbowl running this weekend, our regularly scheduled Fat Bike Friendly Shop Ride is being postponed. But if you’re still itching to saddle up, may we suggest the ¡Ay CRAMBA It’s Cold Out! Fatbike / Snow Bike Festival for some seriously spectacular fat tire time…

Please join CRAMBA for the annual ¡Ay CRAMBA It’s Cold Out! Fatbike / Snow Bike Festival onSaturday, February 4th, 2017 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm for a celebration of winter riding at Shelby Township’s River Bends Park.

Come on out and join us for group rides, fatbike demos, hot bonfires, chili, and tasty beverages with a hundred of your fellow fatbikers. Please feel free to bring food, snacks, and/or drinks to share.
