.2016 Tour de Livingston video

WE’RE TOUR DE LIVINGSTON ADDICTS… AND PROUD TO ADMIT IT!!

Year after year, our favorite community ride runs on first-class, feel-good mojo, and this year was no exception. The weather was grand, the scenery glorious, and the people – volunteers, riders, sponsors – made it all about camaraderie, achievement, and good will.

We can’t even begin to describe how proud we are to be associated with this event, and send a big Hometown hug to Howell Rotary for always making us so much a part of Tour de Livingston.

Photo fiends, be sure to check out our Facebook page and Tour de Livingston’s Facebook page for pictorial Tour eye candy!

NEXT UP… ICEMAN COMETH CHALLENGE
Iceman Cometh logoWith Tour de Livingston behind us, our focus is shifting to another major cycling event that keeps our customers training hard and our shop hopping with pre-event preparations… Iceman Cometh Challenge. This famous, Michigan mountain bike race hits the Kalkaska trails on November 5th. Are YOU ready? Good. Is your BIKE ready? Leave that to us!

ONE GOOD DONATION DESERVES ANOTHER

Here’s a bit of retrospective “feel good” to supplement those morning Wheaties… back in mid-September, the Brighton Area Fire Department ran its annual 9/11 Memorial 5K with our annually donated Hometown Bicycles Jamis cruiser as the fundraiser raffle prize.

Brighton Mayor, Jim Muzzin, was the lucky winner… and this community-spirited head honcho re-donated his win BACK to the Fire Department to raise additional dollars for the 9/11 Memorial fund! We tip our helmets to your generosity, Mayor Muzzin!

Special kudos goes to Team Hometown Bicycles’ Olga N. for leading off the race on her bicycle!

NAME THAT TRAIL!
Hometown Bicycles Mountain Bike singletrack trail

The feisty little trail we cut into the woods behind our shop has been tried and tested, and is ready for action! Ride it.* Reflect. Then send us your best trail name. You could be the one to win eternal Hometown bragging rights for finding that perfect moniker!

*Helmet and waiver required – please take a moment to complete one in the shop before your tires hit Hometown dirt.

LAUREN’S NEW LINE OF SPLATTER STITCHERY

LPbyLP Lauren Patrell bicycle sewing craftsmanship at Hometown Bicycles

Lauren Patrell of LPbyLP beside her bicycle art at Hometown Bicycles in Brighton, MIOur best-selling bike artist, Lauren Patrell of LPbyLP, has the uncanny ability to blow our socks off every time she stops in. Every. Time. We’ve taken to keeping a roll of tape handy when we know she’s dropping by… saves us the trouble of having to track down wayward footwear!

Her latest bit of sock-blowing magic comes from a line of splatter art blended with mad sewing skillz to create total craft nirvana. It’s everything from coin purses and wallets to the sweetest keychains on this green earth, and it’s all available here.

Be prepared to fall madly in love…

HOMETOWN’S DAY AT KEM KREST WELLNESS FAIR

(Photo courtesy of Kem Krest… thank you!)

Kem Krest logoFollowing up on the fun we had at last year’s event, Brighton’s Kem Krest – provider of supply chain solutions – once again extended us the honor of an invitation to participate in their annual Wellness Fair. Held on company grounds, we were one of several stations where Kem Krest staff could learn about health and fitness options AND collect points toward winning prizes for doing so. Such a cool program for a company to offer their team!

Want Hometown Bicycles to be a part of YOUR next company, school, or organization event? We LOVE being involved! Email our Events Coordinator Jennifer atevents@myhometownbicycles.com.

GOOD LUCK, MEGHAN AND COLIN!
Hometown Bicycles crew members, Meghan Horal and Colin Wood

We were sad, yet proud to send off two more of our wonderful summer crew to the world of academia.

Meghan Horal, cashier extraordinaire, added a tremendous amount of value in her brief time here, and was also known for the fantastic bike jokes you read weekly on our entryway board. We wish her all the success in the world at college, and look forward to seeing her again when the weather warms!

Colin Wood has set himself some aggressive personal goals for his final year in high school, but may still make appearances throughout the winter. We’re proud of what he’s accomplishing, including how he’s killing it on the high school mountain bike team. Go, Colin!

You’ll see some new faces at Hometown over the coming weeks. Be sure to stop by and say hello to your new crew-in-training! (Positions still open!)

PINCKNEY STUDENTS PUT SHAUN THROUGH HIS PACES

Shaun Bhajan of Hometown Bicycles teaching the mechanics of bicycles to Pinckney's Navigator Elementary students

Pinckney’s Navigator Elementary teacher, Angela Kanerva, approached us with a fantastically unique request. She asked us to show her students how bicycles consist of a mechanical system in which parts work together to achieve a functional goal. Wow, right?

So, Shaun and our Events Coordinator, Jennifer, addressed over 100 extremely curious students on the science and engineering of bicycles. It was a HUGE hit – for us as much as them! We came away inspired and hopeful about the future of cycling.

What a cool program… can’t wait to do it again! We wish we’d had you as a teacher, Angela!!
