Just a quick note to remind you that Hometown’s Winter Hours are in effect starting today, November 11th. Ride safe. Ride warm. And when the weather’s just not cooperating, be sure to drop in for your daily dose of Vitamin H(ometown) – a Hometown a day keeps you pedaling away!!
Are you REALLY gonna let someone else win? Or are you gonna BRING IT!?
Your chili isn’t going to cook itself, you know…
Welcome to…
Saturday, November 9th from 4-7 PM
We know — and you know — a lot of competitive people. A LOT. On the roads and trails AND in the kitchen. Our event this Saturday combines the best of both worlds!
KICK OFF OUR FAMOUS WINTER FAT BIKE FRIENDLY SHOP RIDE: Team Hometown Co-Captain Mike Dyer is leading this one! Leaving from the shop at 1:30 PM, the posse will ride over to Island Lake and cover the blue loop and the badlands. Yellow loop too, if time permits! Bring your mountain bike or fat bike. Don’t have one? We rent them!
CHILI COOKOFF: Stir up your favorite recipe and drop it off at the shop by 4 PM. People’s Choice judging will begin at 5 PM, and the winners will be announced by 7 PM. We have THREE categories to enter this year: Mild, Medium and Spicy. A winner will be selected from each category PLUS some lucky soul will take on the title of OVERALL BEST CHILI. Our very own Shaun has handcrafted some truly awe-inspiring trophies.
MEET GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS CONTENDER BILL ST. ONGE! Bill will be at the shop with his bike and gear to talk about distance riding, and specifically his upcoming quest to take on the official Guinness World Records title of “Oldest person to circumnavigate the planet by bicycle”.
Bring your curiosity and questions! Check out his blog HERE!
SHARE YOUR HARROWING ICEMAN STORIES! We’ve seen the pics, we’ve serviced some of the surviving bikes, we’ve heard the tales of sinking into inches upon inches of mud… now’s your chance to come talk about it with other cyclists who were there, not to mention everyone who wasn’t there but WANTS to try this epic ride!
Team Hometown Bicycles represented at Iceman in droves.
Congratulations to Scott Simpson (above, top right) for his 4th place single speed podium. Great job, Scott!
Super proud of everyone who conquered this race in whole or in part.
GETTING “FAT” IS FUN!
Okay, okay… cheekiness aside, fat bikes are a fantastic way to keep yourself trim and active during Michigan’s “brrr-r-r-r-r” season. These mammoth-wheeled rides turn mountains into molehills with their ground- and obstacle-devouring anatomy. Best of all, they’re designed for guys and gals of all ages, builds, and skill levels. True family fun, and that’s no joke!
ON YOUR MARK, GET SET… FAT BIKE PREORDERS BEGIN NOW!
We’ve been teasing you all October with the promise of supreme fatness and, as of today, your wish is our special order! Trust us, you don’t want to miss this early order window… you don’t want to be the one staring longingly out the window at all your fat-bound friends!
Jamis fatties will be thundering into our shop in just a few short days. And this year, we’re introducing a new, novice-friendly, economical fat bike brand to our floor – Framed Bikes. (Read more about them below.) We’ll announce the big arrivals on Facebook!

WE’VE BEEN FRAMED!
YUP, HOMETOWN IS NOW ALSO YOUR FRIENDLY, NEIGHBORHOOD FRAMED FAT BIKE DEALER
With fat bike craze sweeping the northern climes, we’re introducing one more line of fatties to round out your selection at Hometown. (I know… how can it possibly get any better, right??)
From Framed’s lips to your eyes, here’s a little insight into the brand…
“…technically sound, affordable bikes targeted to riders who demand a bike with tomorrow’s technology at a great value… Whether your purpose to pedal is to combat traffic congestion, stay healthy, be the cool kid or to lessen your environmental impact, Framed has models for all ages and riding abilities and are priced on principle, not profit. For this simple reason is why our family-owned business remains true to its vision where great bikes do not have to be expensive or complicated. We want everyone to enjoy the countless benefits of cycling.”
So, now you’ve got your fat bike (or your mountain or cross bike), and are wondering… with the days shortening, when can I put my steed through its paces? We’ve got a shop ride for that – Friday Night Lights!
Welcome to Hometown’s new nighttime adventure ride on the trails of Island Lake. Led by Team rider, Mike Dyer, this all-level, no-drop, Friday ride takes you through the Blue and Yellow trails by bike light. Ride frequency and time may vary, so check our Facebook for the latest updates.
