Click on Detroit Vote 4 the Best 2019

Speaking of classes, guess what? Our Events Coordinator and in-shop Zumba instructor, Leslie Barrett, took second place in the Zumba Fitness category! This is a pretty big honor for her as an independent instructor not affiliated with a studio or gym — she was up against some pretty big competition. Congratulations, Leslie!

Thank you Hometownies for making us #1 — now get those voting fingers ready for next year!

Meet Paul Wrona – the newest member of our Hometown crew!

Paul Wrona

Tell us about your new role at Hometown. What are some of your goals for the shop?
My new role is Service Lead. My mission is to make things smoother-easier-faster for the service techs and, at the same time, provide better, more consistent customer experiences. The service team does a fantastic job with diagnosing and solving problems. I want that to come through even more to the customers, so they can appreciate how knowledgeable and awesome the guys really are!

How long have you been part of Team Hometown Bicycles, our cycling team? What’s your favorite part of being on the Team?
I am a new member this year. The best part is the camaraderie of the group rides. I’ve met so many great people this year. My addiction to cycling started 4 years ago when I moved to Brighton and rode the Murray Lake Trail for the first time. Life hasn’t been the same since.

Favorite ride or race in Michigan?
I have not participated in a race… yet. My favorite ride so far was the Tour deTroit. I’m from there originally so it was nice to go back and ride some of the old neighborhoods. Looking forward to the gravel route of the Tour de Livingston this fall!

Tell us something random about you, that we wouldn’t know otherwise.
I’m a SciFi and Space geek – Everything from the Apollo program to SpaceX and Phillip K Dick to Neal Stephenson

Coffee drinker? How do you take your coffee?
Um… I can’t stand coffee. Is that allowed?

Shaun advocates for the Livingston County Transit Master Plan!

Shaun Bhajan speaks at Livingston County Board of Commissioners meeting

Team Hometown member, Neal Glazebrook, Vice Chair of the Livingston County Transportation Coalition, invited our very own Shaun Bhajan to speak at this past Monday’s Livingston County Board of Commissioners Meeting.

The Coalition is seeking full implementation of the Livingston County Transit Master Plan. Read it HERE

“Without the full plan in place, the transit system, including connector trails and bike paths, will likely never come to fruition,” states Neal. “I am helping represent the biking component and other leaders represent segments such as seniors, veterans, and the disabled. There is positive momentum in the county right now and we need to continue to push forward.”

Shaun did a beautiful job presenting to the Board of Commissioners. His comments really struck home with the people there, and a few attendees thanked him for his insightful addition to the pro-Transit Master Plan conversation. You go, Shaun!

Sponsor Feature: Getting to Know Michigan Financial Planning!

Dream Kitchens

Meet Kevin Brennan!

How did you get into riding?
I got into riding in 2013 to try and shed some pounds! I would primarily ride in Kensington until I found myself doing the loop 3 or 4 times. I lost over 60 pounds and now I just love to ride for fun.

Tell us what sets your business apart from your competitors.
What differentiates Michigan Financial Planning is our focus on families. In financial services, it is common for people to primarily work with pre-retirees and retirees. We provide families with the services and support to simplify their financial lives and focus on what’s important. Like going for a family bike ride!

Michigan Financial Planning

What are your hobbies and interests? And do you have a favorite place to ride in Michigan?
I love to go camping with my family and most outdoor activities —  biking, running and skiing. It is hard to just choose one trail, but I could narrow it down to two — Sleeping Bear Heritage Bike Trail and the Betsie Valley Bike Trail

As a sponsor, what are your hopes for Team Hometown?
From the time I met Shaun and Dawn, I could tell they were great people who were passionate about their business and cared a lot about their customers. I am excited to partner because I think we are both family-oriented businesses that are community-minded.

Imagine a sunny day in June (trust us, we know it’s hard right now)…
Hometown Bicycles and Michigan Financial Planning are riding up awareness for families’ physical and financial health! Come on out and enjoy a fun day with the family on the paved or mountain bike trails at Settlers Park.
Save the Date: Saturday, June 8th from 10 AM – 2 PM.

Meet Your Team Captains, Part Two: Joe Ostervik!

Hometown Bicycles

How did you get into riding?
I was  one  year out of quitting/retiring from my construction job of 25 years (May 2012) just to run my entertainment company Mobile Rhythm Entertainment. I wanted to do something, so I looked at my bike hanging with lots of dust on it and I said “I’ll go ride!” So I rode 4 miles and I thought I was going to die!! LOL but stuck with it. By the end of the summer, I had a new road bike and I was riding 20-25 miles. The next summer (2014), I heard about the Tour de Livingston and wanted to do the 62 mile ride. Trained with my great friend Adam and we had a blast, and the next year rode several century rides and races. In March 2015, I bought a mountain bike for the Barry-Roubaix race because I wasn’t sure what it was all about. Didn’t really want to do trails or anything because I didn’t want to get hurt, but I went on my first Hometown shop ride in April 2015 and got addicted!

What are your hopes for Team Hometown this year?
Meet a lot of new people and help get more riders on board, or just come to the shop rides and see them grow as a rider. Just represent Hometown and the sport of riding. It’s fun!!!

Do you have a favorite place to ride?
I guess my favorite places to ride (because they’re so close) are Kensington and Island Lake — good challenge with all the different hills. For mountain biking, Brighton Rec and Poto trails — they are for sure a challenge.

Anything else you’d like us to know about you… random fun facts?
I started my DJ business in 1992 and it’s been growing ever since. In May 2012, I quit my construction job to only do my DJ business, and now I have 5 DJ’s and 4 photo booths. We have been hired to do weddings and all kinds of different events. Haven’t done a funeral yet, but know a few DJ’s who have!
JOIN US! We are still receiving requests to join Team Hometown for 2019… it’s not too late! Drop in for an application. The Team store will re-open soon and you’ll have a chance to order your kit!
