Rides, Picnics, Festivals, Parades & Jubilees for Hometownies

A Team to Write Home-townies About

Team Hometown Bicycles Picnic 2018
LET ME TELL YOU WHAT YOUR TEAM DID…
Last weekend marked the first annual Team Picnic social, held at the beautiful Riverbend picnic area in Island Lake. Our Team gathered for an afternoon of cycling, potluck, grilling, socializing… and astonishing me and Shaun! With Bond-ian stealth, our Team coordinated a surprise 8th birthday gift for Hometown Bicycles – an emergency defibrillator wall unit – and presented it at the picnic. Thanks for the brilliant addition to our shop, Team – we’re feelin’ the love… and it’s mutual!Team Hometown Bicycles Picnic 2018
Key players: Team Social Sponsor, Sean Lowry of Lowry Solutions (top left), was the catalyst behind this event, and we were thrilled to meet his growing family. (Thanks again, Sean!) A Hometown favorite and long-standing, outstanding Service Lead Andrew (top middle) dropped by between grad parties to hang with his Hometownies. Grill masters Steve (bottom left) and Jim (bottom middle) were heroes to all of us hungry cyclists. Our awesome Ride Coordinator, Laura (bottom right), was mastermind and MC for this event. And a shout out goes to Hometown’s newest Events Coordinator and long-time Zumba queen, Leslie, for leaping in head first to set up one seriously successful picnic!

TEAM NEWS: HANSON HILLS, T-SHIRT RIDE & CYCLISTS GONE FISHIN’

Team Hometown Bicycles rider Linc Wehrly at Hanson Hills Mountain Bike RaceMissing the Team picnic in the line of duty (i.e. representing in the Hometown kit), our thanks and kudos goes to Linc Wehrly, who placed a respectable 5th at Hanson Hills Challenge Mountain Bike Race up in Grayling.

Team Hometown Bicycles rider Steve Wortley gone fishingTeam Co-Captain Jim Cleer toured Grand Ledge in his unmistakably Hometown apparel at the annual Tri-County Bicycle Association T-Shirt Ride.

And Steve Wortley did some lake-side promotion, wearing his Team gear for a recent fishing trip. Must have brought him some good luck, too, by the looks of it. Nice catch, Steve!

Thanks for spreading the love, Team!

Hometown Bicycles Amy Gluck running the 2018 Martian Half Marathon on Hines Drive in Dearborn, Michigan
TEAM NEWS: LOWELL LOW-DOWN & RUNNING MARTIANS

Earlier this month, Team Hometown Bicycles braved icy temps and stiff winds to compete at northern Michigan’s Lowell 50 Classic Gravel Road Race. We’d like to high five Linc Wehrly, Jack Riddle, and Brian Forhan for hanging tough and riding strong!

Another Hometown shout out goes to our very own Amy Gluck, who ran bright and bold in the Team kit at a sub-40°, dismally soggy Martian Half Marathon on Hines Drive. One more step in Amy’s remarkable journey back to Ironman from near death. Way to go, Amy!

Tomorrow will find a flood of Hometownies racing the world’s largest gravel road bike race, Barry-Roubaix Killer Gravel Road Race… including your very own Ride Coordinator! (Kick some gravel butt, Laura!!) Whether you’re riding or not, come hang out at the Hometown tent and cheer on your Team – the weather will be all kinds of nice for riders and spectators alike. Good luck, Team!!

Hometown Bicycles Where to Ride in Michigan Potluck Party and Clinic
THANKS FOR MAKING THIS YEAR’S POTLUCK CLINIC AMAZING!
Last Thursday, appetites and attendance were at an all-time, record-breaking high at our annual, Where to Ride in Michigan clinic and potluck party. Hometownies, you truly outdid yourselves! Here’s a photographic look at some of our favorite highlights…

Hometown Bicycles Where to Ride in Michigan Clinic and Potluck Party - fruit, brownies, cookies, and cupcakes!
The FOOD!!  Our tables were overflowing with mouth-watering goodness – everything from slow-cooker ribs to homemade cupcakes. There wasn’t a square centimeter of empty stomach in the place by the time the event was over! Thank you, Hometown chefs!

Hometown Bicycles Where to Ride in Michigan Potluck Party and Clinic speakers - Matt Fitzhorn, Kelly Hibbert of Bike Vacation Tours, Laura Faunce, and Shaun Bhajan
The Clinic:  (from left) The evening kicked off with our awesome, new, Service Manager, Matt Fitzhorn, introducing himself to his awesome, new, Hometown family. We also heard from Kelly Hibbert of Bike Tour Vacations about some seriously fun, bike-based travel adventures. Ride Coordinator Laura did such a great job describing shop rides, and the wonderfulness of our Team, that several Hometownies joined on the spot! And Shaun tied it all together with insights on cycling groups, organizations, rides, and maps.

Thanks, too, to Tom Hermann for the bonus Hartland Trail intel and MMBA chapters lowdown, and the Team members who shared a little of their own Hometown love!

Hometown Bicycles Where to Ride in Michigan Potluck Party and Clinic - Mel Robinson with Shaun and Dawn Bhajan
Hometown Bicycles Where to Ride in Michigan Potluck Party and Clinic - with Paula and Ken from Lake Trust Credit UnionThe Guests:  The evening and shop were packed with wonderful folks, like Paula and Ken (at left) from Lake Trust Credit Union, who live their business culture of community support. Thanks for coming out, you two!

We also had the bittersweet pleasure of giving a Hometown send-off to one very special Hometownie, Mel Robinson. Mel’s been a constant – loyal to a ‘T’, involved, and entirely devoted to cycling. We’re all going to miss you, Mel – bunny hop some gators for us down there in Florida!

Hometown Bicycles Where to Ride in Michigan Potluck Party and Clinic - guys hanging out in the back
The Socializing:  It’s our favorite part of every event – hanging out, making friends, and dreaming up future cycling adventures. The Potluck Clinic offered it up in spades. All in all, it was an evening to remember – thanks again for the memories, Hometownies!
