WE’RE HEADED TO THE LARGEST BICYCLE TRADE SHOW IN THE MIDWEST!
We may not have any blues to lose in the Windy City, but we definitely have some cruisin’ and schmoozin’ planned in our quest to find you amazing deals. Plus, we can’t wait to connect with Jamis, and check out what’s new and cool in the bike industry.

Incidentally, we’re making this a family affair – Liam and Aria (our toddlin’ tykes) will be with us, so let’s see if we can “cute” some good deals for you at the expo!

My cousin got me interested in mountain biking, and I currently bike for the Detroit Catholic Central Mountain Bike Team. Before mountain biking, I used to play travel ice hockey as a goalie.

With Superbowl running this weekend, our regularly scheduled Fat Bike Friendly Shop Ride is being postponed. But if you’re still itching to saddle up, may we suggest the ¡Ay CRAMBA It’s Cold Out! Fatbike / Snow Bike Festival for some seriously spectacular fat tire time…

Please join CRAMBA for the annual ¡Ay CRAMBA It’s Cold Out! Fatbike / Snow Bike Festival onSaturday, February 4th, 2017 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm for a celebration of winter riding at Shelby Township’s River Bends Park.

The 1st Annual Hometown Bicycles Anniversary Party Post Iceman Fat Bike Friendly Mountain Bike Ride Family Extravaganza Art Expo and Chili Cook OffTOMORROW (11/12) IS THE HOMETOWN EVENT OF THE SEASON, AND YOU’RE INVITED!  

Here it is, Hometownies – the very first event of its kind, and we invite YOU AND YOUR FAMILY to be a part of it!

Here’s how it’s going down…


  1. Shop opens at noon and closes around 6pm, instead of our regular 9-5 weekend hours.
  2. Our Schedule of Events (below) is filled with hourly fun and entertainment. Where online pre-registration is offered, please take advantage of it, so that we can make your experience an 11!
  3. Overflow parking is available at the American Spirit Centre across the street – back lot. (Thank you, neighbors!)
  4. Ride with Shaun on the Fat Bike Friendly Mountain Bike Ride, and compete with Shaun in the Chili Cook Off!
  5. Bring family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, acquaintances, heck – even strangers… this event is for EVERYONE!

Hometown artists Peggy Kerwan, Lauren Patrell and her Nana, and newcomer Sarah Burke will be setting up art displays at our first ever mini indoor art fair here at the shop. Weather permitting, Sarah will also be holding an outdoor demonstration of her incredible spray paint art skills. You’ve seen their bicycle art – here’s a chance to enjoy more of their creativity… and maybe take care of some Christmas shopping in the process! WE’RE TOUR DE LIVINGSTON ADDICTS… AND PROUD TO ADMIT IT!!

Year after year, our favorite community ride runs on first-class, feel-good mojo, and this year was no exception. The weather was grand, the scenery glorious, and the people – volunteers, riders, sponsors – made it all about camaraderie, achievement, and good will.

We can’t even begin to describe how proud we are to be associated with this event, and send a big Hometown hug to Howell Rotary for always making us so much a part of Tour de Livingston.

Here’s a bit of retrospective “feel good” to supplement those morning Wheaties… back in mid-September, the Brighton Area Fire Department ran its annual 9/11 Memorial 5K with our annually donated Hometown Bicycles Jamis cruiser as the fundraiser raffle prize.

Brighton Mayor, Jim Muzzin, was the lucky winner… and this community-spirited head honcho re-donated his win BACK to the Fire Department to raise additional dollars for the 9/11 Memorial fund! We tip our helmets to your generosity, Mayor Muzzin!

Special kudos goes to Team Hometown Bicycles’ Olga N. for leading off the race on her bicycle!

We were sad, yet proud to send off two more of our wonderful summer crew to the world of academia.

Meghan Horal, cashier extraordinaire, added a tremendous amount of value in her brief time here, and was also known for the fantastic bike jokes you read weekly on our entryway board. We wish her all the success in the world at college, and look forward to seeing her again when the weather warms!

Colin Wood has set himself some aggressive personal goals for his final year in high school, but may still make appearances throughout the winter. We’re proud of what he’s accomplishing, including how he’s killing it on the high school mountain bike team. Go, Colin!

You’ll see some new faces at Hometown over the coming weeks. Be sure to stop by and say hello to your new crew-in-training! (Positions still open!)

“A TASTE OF HAMBURG FITNESS” AT HOMETOWN 

Hamburg Fitness Center website logoBEGINNING THIS MONDAY (9/26), we’re thrilled to host the 6-week sampler series, “A Taste of Hamburg Fitness”, in our Community Room. Here’s the scoop…

“Wanting to improve your fitness but not sure which type of class you would like to join? For 6 weeks, you can try a sampling of some of Hamburg Fitness Center & Camp classes in Hometown Bicycles’ Community Room.

Each week will be a different one-hour class starting at 6PM Mondays beginning September 26th. You choose – sign up for one or sign up for all. Classes offered are Zumba, Power Pilates, Tabata, Vinyasa Yoga, Functional Training and PiYo.  Each class is $10 paid to the class instructor prior to class start. MILFORD LABOR DAY 30K (above):  Nine of our Team riders took on the myriad challenges of Milford’s Labor Day 30K – seven of them podiumed and every single one made it into the top 5 in their age category! We knew our Team was good, but THIS absolutely blows our minds. Way to go, Team Hometown Bicycles!!

ICEMAN TRAINING RIDE (above):  Led by one of our rockstar Team Captains, Brian Forhan, our new Iceman Training Ride hits 35 miles at a 14mph pace with over 2000′ in climb. PINCKNEY STUDENTS PUT SHAUN THROUGH HIS PACES

Pinckney’s Navigator Elementary teacher, Angela Kanerva, approached us with a fantastically unique request. She asked us to show her students how bicycles consist of a mechanical system in which parts work together to achieve a functional goal. Wow, right?

So, Shaun and our Events Coordinator, Jennifer, addressed over 100 extremely curious students on the science and engineering of bicycles. It was a HUGE hit – for us as much as them! We came away inspired and hopeful about the future of cycling.

What a cool program… can’t wait to do it again! We wish we’d had you as a teacher, Angela!!
